So my girlfriend and I have decided to check out NYC for a few years. We signed a lease in Astoria, NY (close to the airport where we work and couldn't afford Manhattan but two blocks from the subway). I googled "motorcycle Astoria NY" and this was the first post: 178 I take is as an omen that I will enjoy NYC. I realize the riding won't be anything like living 3 hours from Deal's Gap but I look forward to exploring the Northeast US and maybe some Canada. Anyone in the area hit me up and the first round is on me. We are moving in February. :cheersaf: I plan on waiting for warmer weather then riding the Viffer 900 miles, Middle TN to Astoria. P.S. my gf and I agree half the fun of living in NYC is entertaining guest so if you're passing through we have a tiny living room and an air mattress.
Good luck Dustin! I laugh every time someone talks about the city Queens because of the movie "Coming to America" Rollin
I assume by "girlfriend" you mean the SV? I gotta see this. You riding the SV 650 to NYC with the viffer in the back on a trailer
Boy are you ever in for a shock......um I mean "wow that's great" hope you enjoy the northeast. I have friends that do a lot of riding in the eastern part of the upstate.
I think you're going to enjoy it. My office is in Jersey, but there's actually 2 guys that commute; one from Brooklyn and the other was in Astoria, but just moved to NYC. I've spent a fair share of time in NYC (worked there for 14 years) and the suburbs, and I think you're going to have a blast. You're going to be able to eat some of the best pizza and bagels that you've ever had in your life. Restaurants everywhere, and opened at all hours of the day and night. There are plenty of places that you'll be able to ride to. From the Adirondacks to the Poconos. There's even quite a few places in Northern NJ (Google things like High Point, or Space Farms, and take a look at some of the surrounding areas). All of these place are probably within a 1.5 hour slab ride, maybe less. Good luck, and I'll look forward to an update on what you think. If you need to "pick my brain" for any sort of local info, feel free. I can always ask the guy in my office, too.
Thanks for the info! I've been to NYC quite a few times because of work and love it (except for the cold weather but I'll get over it). One of the things we're most excited about is the food. So much great food everywhere... If anyone on this board has a favorite restaurant or place to go in the NYC area I love to hear about it. :cheersaf:
"When you think of garbage, think of Hakeem". Is Hakeem Botswanian for Comicus? Here's a few suggestions. Mezzo Mezzo - Greek Food Aphrodite Restaurant - Gyros and such. Sushi - Kitaqu Sushi. Neptune Diner - Will hook you up with about anything, including displaying their fresh fish Pizza Palace - Good pizza in Astoria. But I think Brooklyn pizza is better. La Guli - Bakery & Pastries. Mojave - Mexican Food Chicken Festival - Chicken and Chinese Food (on 31st Street) If you need a hook up for some off site betting, I can give you the name of a flower place that always has some side action going. I won't post it here. From the guy in my office: "If you want a haircut by a woman with a sweet tight bangin ass, go to Space (Hair Salon) and ask for Stella. Her ass crack smells like Downy". (I'm just telling you what he said). Also from the guy in my office: "If he needs to go to a bodega, got to Fast Break 24. There's a short blond hair girl there with a tight fuckin ass and C cups. All she'll do is talk about how hot her ass is, and so you gotta say, yea, you ain't lying - then you're in". (I should mention the guy in my office is obsessed with ass, and the fact that you are moving there with your girlfriend is irrelevant to him. As far as he's concerned, that's just more ass to look at). When you go to Brooklyn, you have to go to Juniors for Cheesecake. There is also Peter Lugers Steakhouse (all cash and expensive as all hell), but in my opinion, best steakhouse evvahhh! I've eaten at Sparks, Mortons, Ruths Chris, Benjamins, Keens, Smith & Wollensky, Gallaghers. Probably been to a few others, but Lugers is my favorite).
