    Hey all-

Post up some pics of your favorite tank bags for our bikes. I'm prepping for the haul to R3, and all I see in stores are the magnetic bags- which aren't going on my paint...

I've been lookin online at ePrey and cycle gear, and there seem to be some cool ring mounted bags, but the pics suck, and the application charts aren't very clear on some.

Show me what's workin for ya!

I have the Givi Tanklock bags, TPH02 (4L capacity for small trips) and the T480 (14L-22L for longer trips and for holding work gear). Both use the same mounting ring and the bag never touches the gas tank. It "snaps" on and quickly releases and feels pretty solid once it snaps in. I don't think you could store too much weight in it but for the most part it works really well for my needs. The thing I like about both of these is the cut out for a navigation device or iPhone and either bag can be used without having to change any mounting brackets or straps. I don't have pictures of the larger bag, but I can probably take some later for you if you like. Here are a few that I took for the smaller bag.

    Cheers.

I also use a magnetic and no issues. For the price, you can't beat the CycleGear Bilt tank bags, mang.

The ring that mounts to the gas tank is a separate item as these are bike dependent but the bag itself has the locking mechanism already. The larger bag has mounting holes for allowing the bag to be further forward or further back on the tank.

I bought mine from Motorcycle Superstore because I had a 20% off coupon. I think that SW-Motech has a similar setup but I am not familiar with theirs and Twisted Throttle carries both product lines.

I'm running a few errands and grabbing lunch in a few. I'll take some photos a little later and post.

I'll give another thumbs up for the magnetic tank bags. Been running with one for 3 years now with no swirls, scratches, nicks, discoloration or any other problems.

As long as you don't neglect the paint or do anything careless (like drive through a sandstorm and then drag the bag across the tank) it'll be fine.

    Pictures as promised...

Note that both bags have a safety strap and the T480 also has a "handle" that expands so that it can be slung over the shoulder. The side pockets are not that roomy however, but enough for spare sunglasses (in hard cover case) and ear plugs on one side, a pen, spare change and 6oz. bottle face shield cleaner on the other. The rider POV photo is with the bag fully expanded and camera placed on top of bag. For giggles I also have one of the TPH02 as normally packed for short rides.

Sounds like a case for Bagster, matched to your bike, of course.

    Bagster - VFR 800 (50e ann) - HONDA - 1999 - red / light grey

I looked them because they clip to the cover, and the cover stays on the bike, protecting your finish. I was looking at one for the ST line, once.

Personally I use the Shook Design Speed pak. Yes, its magnetic, but I've had it 5 years and no scratches. What can I say, I'm different.

I have been using the Cortech 14 liter bag. It's magnetic. I use it on both my Yamaha and VFR. No scratching yet. I wipe any dust off the tank before I mount it. And have plenty of wax on the tank.

Not through the body, but the large bag has a zipper along the top of the unit that would allow access to the GPS/Phone area. The small one would require modifying the bag a bit, as the place to put the GPS/Phone is accessed from the inside of the bag.

I have seen the kits for doing this and they run about $40-$60 and they're by Powerlet Luggage Electrix - Powerlet Products It basically has the pass through grommet and cables, giving you everything you need. Since most of my rides are relatively short I have not been in a real hurry to add the power outlet, but that's on my list of goodies for this year.

BTW they both come with a rain cover, the large bag has it built-in the pouch at the front of the bag and the small one (TPH02) it is separate. I have to say I really like them both and would not hesitate to recommend them. I use one or the other every time I ride, the large one mostly when I'm working.

    Cheers.

Some magnetic tank bags are detachable from the pad that contains the magnets. I have a Marsee like that. Bigass magnets too. Even loaded up with my TV so I can watch my Oprah re-runs and the mini fridge for my power bars, drinks and the occasional roadkill I eat, the bag or pad doesn't move. Can this be said for tankbags or any soft luggage that are secured by straps and other devices? I don't think so.
