    Im looking to pick up a Power Commander, but doesnt have to be right away. Im always looking for a bargain, so if anyone knows of a cheaper alternative to 300 something new, let me know.

    Also, Im new to the FI bikes. I can tune a carb easy, but my AEM and MODIS wont plug into anything :rolleyes: Sorry to sound ignorant, but what am I looking for?

    I dont have much done to the bike, other than it not being a bike anymore:
    Revamped headers and Nonrestrictive exhaust (still got Cat)
    K&N filter, stock airbox, extra inlet opened
    Extra vacuum crap deleted
    PAIR valves deleted
    6th gen Coil-over-Plugs
    Cooling system expanded so this sucker will never get too hot

    Plans for the future:

    Turbo

    (Speaking of which, if anyone has a GT25 in good condition, hit me up)

    Thanks!

    Or you could just buy the super charger already designed for the 5th gen. The system is more complicated than one would think at first glance

    If you can find me a supercharger system for less than the 300 bucks it will take for me to turbo my VFR, then Im in. Seems like the super kit is like 5 grand, which is more than I have invested in this entire project, and you dont get that sneezing sound. :biggrin: But it would be nice...

    I'll believe it when I see it.

    Would be glad to eat crow but do not believe for a second that it can be done for 300. Power commander alone is that much. Then you will need a custom map.

    Now you need materials and hardware assuming you have a machine shop and welding ability.

    Oh right on, I was just talking about materials and the turbo. Already got one that will work, but needs rebuilt. My shop has done many custom turbo jobs, and we got plenty of piping left over to make whatever I need. I used to work in a bike shop, and made some friends with a dyno that said they would be happy to help me tune this thing (assuming that we can get it on the bike dyno).

    But thats a little ways out. Gotta get it running first. Found out that 6th gen coils need a triggering signal, and the 5th gen ECM only puts out a switching signal. Phooey.

    Regardless, still looking for a Power Commander.

    you should probably figure out if you need to get a 6gen harness and ECU before picking up the PC. Might change your mind about whether it's important to go PCIII or PCV.

    This was also brought to my attention, haven't used one or heard of they are good. Sounds right though with a good price. Who knows how it would work with a Turbo.

    Hope we'll see some pictures of this build. I'm still pretty skeptical.

    C'mon Tink. It's 2012. Turn a leaf and be a glass half full guy just for a little while. :wink:

    I know he's been working on this project for a while now. I'd love to see this thing too, with or without a turbo.

    my pessimism might be motivating. I think he's nuts but would love to be proven wrong. I doubt with honest accounting and even a few deals passed on here and there that it can be done for $600. If a guy has the smarts and resources, I don't doubt the project can be completed. How successful, fit and finish, and price are what I question.

    I have a power commander II that I am not going to use. I've been meaning to put it up in the classifieds. I'll post it up in classifieds this weekend. Contact me if interested.

    Not to be rude, but if I let every nay sayer get me down, this thing would have never got started. People on the internet seem to be much more negative than people that are actually in the shop checking it out, but thats to be expected since "advice" is free to give without repercussions and makes people feel important.

    Anyway, I put the stock coils back on, and the sucker fired right up. The other mechanics here swear to me theres a way to get the 6th gen coils with a built in ICM (transistor) to read that switching signal as the triggering signal, but he tried it for a while with no luck. Id rather use those COPs, but I got it running.

    And it runs good! Still sounds all billy badass. Gotta patch up the wiring, throw some lights on it, tune my suspension, and Im driving it out of the shop!
    ...But it just snowed 3 inches last night, and the roads are all icy, so it might not leave the shop for a while.

    Regardless, the turbo idea is for later this year, more likely next year. I just like to keep a heads up for stuff when its cheap (which is how I cut cost so much on this build). BUT, I priced out piping for the manifolds if we dont have any in stock (I like to buy more than I need, and Im tax exempt):

    20ft of 1.25" exhaust pipe @ $1.04/ft = 20.80
    5ft of 2" alum intake piping @ 3.49/ft = 17.45
    4ft square of 1/8th alum for new intake @ 7.60 sqft = 30.40
    GT25 rebuild kit = 45.99
    BOV = 35
    Bottle of Argon for Tig = 30
    Welding rods for Tig = 10
    Hookers = Priceless

    Subtotal = 189.64

    Thats very tenative, because the price of metal fluctuates. And Im going to get a power commander regardless of forced induction just so I can tune and squeeze as much as I can out of this engine, so its unfair to add that into the turbo ledger.

    That Bazzaz auto mapper sounds like a good deal. I'll check with my bike shop and dyno buddies and see if they have had any experience with it. I am not a tuner, so it seems like a great option, but things that sound too good to be true usually are.

    I would expect that dyno jet has told their dealer/customers at least a dozen reasons why the bazzaz sucks.

    If you do get the power commander it is a must to make sure the bike tuned and then have a shop dyno tune the unit to your bike. If you are not willing to do that it really is a waste of money.
    IMO If you have not tuned your suspension doing that first would give you more "bang" for your buck.

    I do plan on getting the power commander tuned for my ride, granted that we can get it on the dyno somehow.

    Right now, my suspension is tuned for everything at 0 (except camber is -1 degrees). Once I get it on the road, I'll play around with it and try to find a tune that I like. But for the 2 mile drive to the storage facility, I dont think tuning is necessary right now. Once I get back, I'll get it out and have some fun.

    Man, its gonna be hard to stay away when nice weather hits and I get the urge to drive the vehicle that I engineered and built from the ground up. I cant even do laps in the shop parking lot without having people just driving by just pull in to check it out and talk to me.

    Im trying to get my buddies little Go Pro HD camera for a drive so I can make a small video. I got way too many people hounding me about videos to make them wait for 3 months.
