Through Spain and up to the UK

Last summer and again this year that will be the trip of the year. Stopping off to watch the Le Mans 24 and then on up to the UK - you could do it in 3 - we take 4 days over it, with some long stops for refreshments on route:caked:

I left at noon on a sunny Friday afternoon and arrived back home at 1ish in the afternoon 1600 miles later. Riding my 91 vfr with Corbin seat was a breeze and I could have kept going no problem. The biggest pain was the short fuel range (120 miles per tank)! I was wearing Fieldsheer ballistic nylon gear (manx pro) with liners and full armor and sidi racing boots which was quite comfortable. We saw temps from low 90's to snow in Aspen so good gear was key. My 5th gen would have been even better but I never had a chance to go.

Just got back from a trip to Atlanta (from Tallahassee, FL) for the international bike show. Up and back in two days. First advice for the VFR - dump the seat. I put a corbin on my '04 and it made a great difference. The Helibars helped to take the strain off my wrist and I love the throttlemeister. The Honda hard bags are great. The VFR is a fantastic bike. I ususally get bored with a bike after a couple of years, but not the VFR. I don't think I could ever replace it with something that I'd like to ride as much. Get the VFR!

I'm about your size and have no problem doing 10-12 hour days if needed on the viffer. I am also 40 so this isn't a kid who's able to fold up like a deck chair with no effort.

I've found that long days are no issue as long a you don't think about how long you've been riding. In other words - iPOD!!! Also use built in helmet speakers to eliminate earbuds that get uncomfortable. Keep you mind clear and you'll forget about your butt. Went with a Corbin which helps huge on the long haul. No cruise control but I'd love to try a Throttlemeister.

They viffer is not my favourite choice though for 2 up with the short wheelbase, but solo, I can still have fun when the good roads appear on your trip.

Last summer rode from Caledon, Ont., to southern New Brunswick in one day - about 12 hours and 1200 kms, through some bad storms with no ill effects. Kept going around the east coast of Canada and the US with a great big grin on my face. Give the viffer a chance, she won't let you down.

That would be so cool if we could hook up on that trip, I always figured that would be a 4500 mile solo ride. I've taken that trip at least 7 times, been the southern route through Arizona and New Mexico and the northern route through Nevada & Colorado. Just don't let me doze off in Kansas

Most likely I would have a little over two weeks for that trip, since the move to Washington, my five weeks of vacation are now just a fond memory. The destination for me is around Sedalia Missouri...

I can get two weeks off easily if I give enough notice. my kids lives just past sedalia on I-70, near Boonville. Then the rest of my family is in southeast missouri, near Sikeston. Yeah, Kansas is awful to cross. SD is no better. Maybe we could find a cool route through one of them but I doubt it. We'd prob be better to just ride through the night to get it done... Maybe we could get in the ironbutt club after doing the ride.

Hey Slo, was that a trip to Laguna Seca? Was wondering if you worked with USARM as a Corner Marshall? I've been doing that for the past 2 yrs. (35 bucks for a license/ticket to the event plus I get to watch the event from the track!) This will be my 3rd year and REALLY want to take this VFR down from OR but am not sure I'm in ridin' shape yet!! I think I'd do the same though, take a couple of days to get there.

I was thinking about 500-750 miles a day, that way we would have about a full week in Missouri, correct me if I'm wrong because I haven't done that trip other than by major highway or air in a long time but isn't it a pretty straight trip other than Colorado know matter what route you take?

I would say the chances of us coming home without a ticket are 50/50 on a trip like that because if any VFRworld member has ever taken that route knows there is a lot of straight open road area's to see how fast the VFR really goes, I guarantee you after that trip I would be posting on the thread "How Fast does a VFR go"

I was thinking 2008 or 2009 for this trip, because this year I really want to do some sort of VFR West Coast convention and visit friends in California with maybe a trip to Seca again...

yeah kansas is definitely a snoozer. My first stop in MO would only be 1 hour or so form Sedalia in New Franklin (near Columbia) to see the kids. From there, I'd head on down to the bootheel to see the rest of my family. You think we could do it on one set of tires? You know old route 66 back might be fun. I've always thought it nostalgic. We'd have to take pics and a laptop to keep a VFRworld tour journal so everyone could follow where we are and meet up and ride different parts of the journey... I'll be Ewan and you can be Charlie. hehe

Go for the VFR but we'll all say that anyhow but when they aren't broke dont fix it.
The vfr is the best bike ever, done a few 5-7 hour rides and was able to go on for more.

The VFR is an able bike for long trips but will also give some off these sports bikes a run for their money.

Go for it, you wont regret it.

Reg - if you ever get Ohio way I'll take you for a run on one of the nastiest twisty roads in Ohio - route 555. It's roughly 70 miles begining to end. Bring your A game.

I think by the time we make it to Ohio, I'll down to my G or H game if not lower in the alphabet, and I'm not sure I'd be able to keep up with you on my A game, but I'd enjoy the ride!
