Of course they know other brands exist, it's just that they have no idea of what the other companies do. - There are an absolutely astonishing number of Americans who sincerely believe that H-D makes the fastest, most powerful, most reliable, best quality bikes on the planet. Even if you show them comparative specs, they still persist with their delusions.
I had one jackass bagging me out for owning a "plastic, crotch-rocket". I pointed out that my Hayabusa was literally more than twice as powerful his H-D shitbox, as well as being three times faster, handling better, braking better and being a lot more reliable. His response? "Well...I prefer torque over horsepower." So I showed him that my bike also had more torque than his. His final response? "I don't care. Harley's are still the best!" (At what?!)

Did you expect him to humbly lay his cloisonnéd vest at you feet and admit defeat?

Next time agree, and tell him you'd be riding your own Hog but it's in the shop awaiting parts being shipped from overseas.

I just expect people to be capable of rationality. - Too much to ask for when dealing with Harleydoods, apparently.

Not sure why you'd bother arguing about with him in the first place, seems a waste of time to both of you.

2 years ago was talking to a guy down the road who'd ridden sports bikes for over 20 years when questioned how his old ZZR1100 was going he replied he'd just traded it in for a new HD FXDF Dyna Fat Bob because he wanted to ride something that was harder to ride fast to slow his speeds down but also looked good in his Garage.

When I spoke to him again 12 Months later he'd already sold the HD for Jap Metric Cruiser because it did the same thing as the HD but there were less dicks riding them.

If they were any good at what they do, they would be so busy they wouldn't have time to run for and hold office. We have dropped to electing the best of the worst that other people allow us to vote for.

Was amused to find out Fosters is brewed overseas in '99 when working for a month in my then employers head office in Vinings Georgia. Shopping in the massive to me Publix read on the back of the "Imported" Fosters can it was brewed in Canada...Didn't phase me though no-one I've ever known has drunk the stuff here in the first place.

Exactly. You can always tell who the tourists are: they're the ones trying to buy Fosters, then being puzzled when the barman laughs at them.

One of my fave's was Heinekin in bottles. Got some draught one time in a tavern. Not even close.. Surprising that Fosters is not that popular in OZ.. Ahh, the power of advertising leads us to believe it the national beverage..

Here, the beer lobby held the craft brewers hostage and would take pot shots at the smaller brewerys like Spoetzel (sp?) in Texas. There were instances of the big Texas breweries, Pearl and Lone Star at the time, hooking up with the bible thumpers donating money to keep certain counties in Texas dry ( of the hard stuff) so more beer could be sold.

I was in Vienna years ago and had to try the Austrian version of MacDonalds. Not bad with the beer they served there.. Calibrated cups too.

Booze in WA is a state enterprise. One facet, is that one may bring in a container of a known volume and purchase draught beer to take out.. A pilot friend of mine does this regularly. His containers he gets from Canada. They are Imperial measure.

You can also tell the tourists from the real aussies because they are the ones getting off the boat without handcuffs and shackles.

@BadBilly - In New Zealand it used to be quite common to be able to buy flagons of beer. You could take your own flagons into a liquor store and fill them up, straight from the keg. It was damn cheap, too.

@Comicus - It's OK. Those sort of jokes never offend me because they are never original and I'm not an Australian.

Perhaps the whole skull and blood and guts theme so popular in Harley trinkets and tats could be slightly morphed to include Chinese workers as they die of horrific diseases while working in wheel plants and living in squalid conditions. Fuck em someone has to build our shit, and if you aint gonna pay us, exploit someone. I gotz minez, get yerz.

@rainbow.....many moons ago I recall Lion Brown in NZ and brown Maori girls, .........NZ is a wonderful place, at least as I remember it.
