Scubalong walks into a bar, sits downs and starts to make conversation with the biker at the bar. "Rant to hear a Harrey Joke?"

The second guy says "Sure, but before you tell it, let me tell you something. See those two bikers over there by the door-real mean motherfuckers-??? They're Harley owners. And those two bouncers by the bar? They're Harley owner too! The Bartender? He’s a Harley owner!! And one more thing pal, I'm Harley owner too!!! Now..... still want to tell that joke?"

"Hell no round eye!", replies the Honda rider, "I don't rant to have to exprain it 6 times!"

I have tons of fun with the Hardly riders on Montezuma Grade....

....on my bicycle. Going downhill. Uphill, even a Harley can keep up or beat a bicycle.

Weekends when the So Cal. weather is nice, they come out in droves. The Montezuma Grade road is about 11 miles long with an average of about 7% grade and plenty of switchbacks. A skilled and strong cyclist can easily hit 50mph and pretty much maintain that speed around the corners, despite having tires and wheels that are measured in millimeters.... My bicycle rides on 19mm slick tires that weigh about 200 grams.

The road crests in Ranchita and starts with a long straight downhill. It goes into a few tight sections which get the attention of the Harley dudes, but for a mile or two the road opens up and the grade is lesser....so they are always in a huge hurry to re-pass me on my bicycle....to show how fast their Hardly is.... After about 5 miles, the road gets really really serious....for a Harley...So I simply sit on their wheel through the flatter sections with the big wide corners....then at the first switchback....Boom!....I stand up and sprint past them as they drag their pipes and cook their brakes.....
They try, for a few corners, to catch back up...."Ain't no Lycra-clad bicycle sissy gonna pass my Harley....."...but that doesn't work out too well for them...they simply can't do it....
VFRs can. CBRs can. Triumph 675s can....But not a big fat Harley.... There is one special switchback where we sometimes just get of the bicycles and relax, watching the Harleys scrape around. It is the first dimishing radius corner going uphill out of the town....and they come torquing along.....only to find their floorboards dragging........I should open a toilet paper concession on that corner for the Harley riders...

They do get even....going uphill their exhaust pipes really punish a bicyclist's ears.....and Harley riders love to NOT give you an extra inch as they PUTT PUTT past your ears....

I absolutely love the video. When I started this thread, it seemed that most Harley riders that I ran into always had something really rude to say, or they simply wanted to talk Shit. I have ran into Harley riders, (Very few though), that appreciate Sport bikes and genuinely want to know about my 5th Gen VFR. To me, there shouldn't be a rivalry between Sport bikes and Cruisers. It is nice to put them to shame on the Viffer, when they can't help but put their foot in it. But, my point is, is that I know there are kind Harley riders out there that do not want to compete, because they have a good understanding of what our rides can do..

Just because some of them are crossdressers it doesn't mean they are all fags. Some of those titty pix at harleydoodfests are fake.

Back in the late 70s I worked in a BMW/Triumph dealer. My boss, and master mechanic, was a Harley guy from way back. His career stated in the 50s with the introduction of the K model. He hated Harley's. He used to dance around the shop (he really did) and sing little tuneless songs of the crappy build quality, the generators with flying opens and the warranty from Harley that covered parts but not labor.

We used to have the "Harley's Best Screw The Rest" bunch that would drop in. Mostly because Leroy could actually fix their bikes. One of these guys was bragging about how his Harley would run over 150 miles an hour. My boss looked him in the eye and said "That's impossible. At speeds over 70 the vibration causes your vision to blur so badly there's is no way you could read the speedometer!"

Leroy loved BMWs. He was amazed at the build quality and the attention to customer service. He was a dedicated BMW rider till the day he died. He loved to ride thousands of miles and as he said "nothin' broke or fell off." I remember once, he had been gone to Canada with the guys. He came in, threw his helmet on the workbench and said "I am getting rid of that bike it's nothing but trouble. I just can't trust it anymore." He was talking about his K100RT. "What happened" I asked. He just smiled really big and said "it blew a headlight low beam." He walked off smiling muttering "noting but trouble" to himself.

You do have to pay more for the BMW, but you do get a better bike. It probably what will replace my VFR in the years to come. I do have someone that I used to ride with that has a K1100 and he is going through headlights about one a year. Same thing, low beam goes out. Not cheap to replace as the only way to swap it out is through the dashboard...

Those bikes make you marry the dealer to do any work, at least them new fanggled ones (not to be confused with new-fagged.) On them liquid cooled bikes the cylinders are cannted forward much like the Yamaha had and everything is jam packed basically. Brakes are a pain in the arse too, as you have to hook the bike up to a computer which mr. friendly dealer has. Just my 2 cents.

If you yearn for a simpler to work on new motorcycle you could always try a Hyosung, not only do they cater for sporty Nakeds and Cruisers they spare no expense when launching a new model.

    @ Keager

BMW make great bikes (usually weird-looking, though) but I don't believe their build quality or reliability surpasses those of Honda. I'd say they are fairly close, with Honda slightly edging out the Bavarians.

Man you'reNo wonder Harley is loosing the cop bike business! - Harley Davidson Forums
This is interesting comparison of portential Police Motor bikes. I would pick the HD because they are the loudest and I belive that maintenance cost would be lower in the long run but the Honda would be my second choice only because taxpayer dollars should go bikes assembled in the good old USA.
