You seriously need to read the service manual before you screw something up.

thanks for the advise! Reading the manual can't hurt!

I didn't look closely at the picture from tinker but it appears that he is illustrating a pre-93 bike! Since the pilot screw on my 95 is set from the factory and had not been removed i assume no adjustment is needed!

I was just so excited that finally might have an answer i over looked the obvious!

Any input that you might have will be appreciated!

    Thanks again!

Congrats--you found the steel drain screw...

And yes you are right the illustration is not a 4th gen carb.

The brass pilot screw has a "D" shaped head that requires a special tool, and is accessed from below the carb and not from the side--it is invisible from the side since it is recessed in a down tube located between the notch of the float bowl cover and the insulator band.

When the carbs are off i usually use a dremel cutoff wheel to cut a thin slot in the pilot screw head so a flat blade screwdriver can be used for adjustment.

No carb cleaning is complete without removal of the idle mixture screw and a blow-through of the hole with carb cleaner spray and compressed air.

The special tool needed for gen 4s comes in a Dynojet/K&N jetkit or can be bought from Motion Pro.

    squirrel,
am i correct in assuming that the idle mixture screw is the same as the starting enrichment valve in the service manual?

    No, not at all !

Idle screw is located on the underside of carb, brass-colored, surrounded by a circle of carb metal as described by K-B. ^^^^^

    1/4 throttle, No Respose

This is some good information here!!! Did you guys ever find the problem for this issue? I have a similar problem but I know my choke works cause the bike only starts with the chocke on. Stars fine, idles fine, revs fine, but as soon as i hit the road after 1/4 turn of the throttle she just starts popping and wont go any faster and the more i turn the throttle the more she bogs down and becomes unresponsive!!!
