I'm still in the no scratch/nick stage mentality of ownership on a recently acquired new '09. Was wondering about using some kind of fairing protection up front and low where the front tire kicks stuff up. Perhaps some clear static cling (saran wrap) or something that might be peeled off and replaced with ease. Any ideas? Thanks! Robert.

Google: "3M protective films" . 3M also have a tearaway film used for windows on military vehicles.

Like Badbilly says that film is effective of for minor surface scuff protection. But obviously if the bike tips over, or goes skidding down the road in the wet, then your fairing is probably going to end up with serious scratches or worse. So you may also want to consider fitting crash bungs and bar end sliders, and a large tank protection pad as scratches from jacket zips are probably the most common source of paintwork damage. I got mine from here http://www.rg-racing.com/browseBike/Honda/VFR800_v-tec/2009.aspx I guess basically similar products are available the other side of the pond.

I am a big fan of the good insurance with a low deductible fairing protection. It works well.

According to a few dudes here they never go down and ride so well that all equipment would be superfluous, add several pounds to the weight of thier race prepped VFRs, decrease the mileage from 75 to a mere 50mpg and make them look like pussies. At least the films are clear and hard to spot..;)
