Well, I started the project. I am still working on mocking it up. I got a piece fabbed by a local exhaust shop but I think it needs a bit more of a bend. I will still need to have a complete piece made, but not until after I get dan idea of how the bends will need to be. Here are some photos:

First is a pic from behind. There is more clearance than it looks like.

A view from the side. I removed the right side pass. peg, at least temporarily. You can see the pipe needs a little tighter bend and maybe needs to be a bit shorter on the bottom.

    A pic from top right:

A pic from top left. I wonder if I can shorten the pipe on the muffler a little more in order to get a better fit for the mid pipe and maybe get a better bend angle at the muffler.

Like I said, it's just mocked up and nothing is permanently mounted. I have to figure out a bracket for the muffler itself and then one or more for the pipe itself. Opinions so far?

Any thoughts about a dual undertail exhaust? (5th Gen style). Would a newer generation set up work? (with modification)
The single looks good but appears to be missing something.(perhaps an oval can would be more suitable). Just a thought.

you mean 6g? I have been wondering that, too. I would really like to make the rear tire more visible and show off the SSSA. It's one of the unique things about our bikes so I like to show it off.

    Another picture?

    Definitely agree!

    Vinny,
The one picture I wanted to see, the right side with the wheel fully exposed, doesn't show up for me, the other three are just fine.
Could you repost that one picture?
    Thanks.

Sorry, I did mean 6th. However; I think anything 04 and newer might work. I see a set in the classified ( Might be worth a shot).
I also agree, the SSSA is the most distinguishable feature of the VFR. I'm all for anything that shows it off.

    dskelton,

I don't what happened but it appears the pic was replaced by one I already had in photobucket, or it got deleted somehow. Either way, I have it fixed now.

Yep, its a CBR exhaust, 04-06 model. I am still gonna have to chop a bit off the muffler end of the pipe. But overall it should be a good set up, i think. It would really be nice if I had a set of rear headers of a 94-97 model as it would make it a bit easier to route the mid pipe. But that's not gonna happen since I am on limited funds. But either way it should turn out nice.

Thanks. Don't know how much you had to do to get it that way, but the mufflers looks like it belongs there. Very nice look. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Give me 6-8 weeks, and I just might have a set of 4th gen rear headers for you. If you're still interested around that time frame, just let me know. I should be ordering my exhaust canister this month, with an aftermarket set of headers to follow in April.

Vinny, I have an extra set of '94-'97 header pipes for $50.00. My '90 is a lot cleaner without the lunchbox in the exhaust and you can also fit a centerstand.

This may have been covered so I apologize if it has but what about heat on the rear cowling? Im assuming you are going to put an aluminum heat shield in or something or dont you think heat will be an issue?
    Looks great tho...I like it!

I am not sure how much an issue the heat will be, but I will probably add a shield there of some sort there, just have to look to see how I will do it.

I got made the brackets to mount the muffler today. Sorry I don't have pics as I left my camera at home. As for the heat shield, i got some sheet metal to make a shield to replace the plastic shield. I may need to remake the bracket as I am not sure I used a thick enough piece of metal.

    Update...... (56k Warning!)

Ok. I got some more work done on it. I did have it mocked up with a rubber air intake hose from the mid pipe at the header to the muffler so I could ride it to the exhaust shop. Looks like I will have to do the pipe myself since the guy at the shop said he was not sure he could do anything with it. BAH! Anyway, here are some more pics. I just rigged it so I had a license plate on it and be at least some what legal. So here thay are:

Just as a note: the muffler did not rub on the way to or from the shop. I don't think it will at all, but more bumpy roads will determine if it will or not. I cranked up the compression on the shock too.

I have some, but it does not bend tight enough. I may try some just as a quick fix to see how it does. I was surprised that it di dnot appear to be any quieter then the D&D I had on it. But then I know there was an exhaust leak or two.
