There's a guy in Holland, MA who has 84, 85 and 86 500Fs he's trying to part out or sell as parts bikes. I found my red OEM 84 tank (finally) with him. It's damn-near new looking on the inside. He's OG salvage, so he doesn't do ebay parts- you'll need to actually call and talk to him to see what he has, but he does ship.

By the sound of it, he's got full engine/carb sets for all bikes, body, frame... that '84 has got a unique seat I've never seen before on a 'ceptor. He does/did have a craigslist ad up (how I found him), he says he didn't put up the '85 because he thinks the '85's engine is blown, but he'd need to get it on the bench to be sure.

Here's his CL ad: Honda VF500 Interceptors

And his number is (413) 233-8316

I'm just passing on the word, potentially racking up good karma.

    +1, good on ya!

Nice to see the extra effort on the resto. Hard to top the original graphics/color scheme of the 500.

Thanks y'all! I don't normally toot my own horn about that kind of stuff, so it's good to know I have the 1st gen riders' seal of approval. :)

It's true, you can't beat that original paint. Sometimes I think that repainting when there's no need for it should be a hanging offense. This has been an exercise in the very nature of the impermanence of things- this bike is ~35k on the odometer, I don't know how long I've got... but I'm going to love the shit out of it until it's gone.

If I could make a recommendation, pick up a low(er) mileage set of heads. There is a what looks to be a nice set on eBay right now. Whole kit and caboodle for around $100 + shipping. A very good deal and these don't take up much room on the spare parts shelf.

I've know of at least one 500 that has over 100k on the clock, Larry Lovisone's Belt_O_Ceptor.

With proper care these engines can last.

Thanks, IC. I've been considering getting a spare set, although right now is probably not a great time financially. Still, I've been very thorough in keeping the current valves in spec and doing proper warmup... I've got to be buying some time that way. :-D

Now that you're riding a superbike, you're missed over at the VTR250 site.
