Hey guys, I'm a long time VF/VFR owner. I just picked up my 4th one last week, an '86 VF1000R. I was an 'early adopter' with the Honda V4's, starting with an '83 VF750, then an '86 VF700, and a '91 VFR750... and now the VF1000R.

I have about 80K miles of VF/VFR experience under my belt, so I'm sure I'll be contributing here when needed, and will be gaining from the collective experience here as well. I absolutely love the VF1000R... it's heavy, but really feels light on it's feet once rolling down the road. It's a porker in the parking lot, and you really need to be sure-footed when moving it around. Oh, and it's FAST too! I like that part especially.

This is my 48th bike (been riding a LONG time) and I'm used to heavy and powerful bikes so please don't worry. I'm also 56 yrs old, so I won't go out and ride it like I stole it! This bike needs to be ridden with respect... it doesn't deserve to be thrown down the road.

Here's a few pics of the bike:

My first mod: Install VFR750 bars on the VF. They raise the bars and move 'em back about 1" each way. MUCH more comfy, and I put the OEM bars safely in the parts box.

    Here's a cell phone pic:

Gidday from Canada, Blight - That's a beauty.

And only 19K on her I see!

Do you know if your slip on's are Jama type? Are they throatier than stock you think (if you have any reference to stock sound, that is). I'm scrounging around trying to find the right fit for my "Sugar".

Thanks guys, she is low mileage and in good shape. The slip-ons are the older F1 type (I think they are not produced anymore) and they are pretty quiet at idle, but take on a nice snarl as the revs rise. Ends up being pretty loud near redline and full throttle, but sounds great to me. I have several louder bikes in the garage! They are also repackable, and the PO said he did it just before the sale.

The best part is these aluminum cans are really light. I took them off to tighten the resonator box connections, and they were featherweight. I have a set of OEM cans and they are HEAVY.

CF cans are very light too if the tailpipes aren't too long. The F1 style uses a rolled aluminum megaphone-cone for the connection to the box, so that knocks off a few lbs. It's hard to shed a lot of weight on these bikes, and probably not worth modifying a classic to do it.

I did knock manage to knock over 50lbs off my Harley XR1200 though. It's now right around 505 lbs with a full tank, ready to ride. It's kinda overbuilt too.

Definitely a great find. Not many left in that kind of shape. I know what you mean about the weight and the speed. The speed comes up on you quicker than you realize. I don't like putting mine into 5th gear unless you're doing at least 65. It is very deceiving. Be safe and enjoy it. After 48 bikes, I think this one is a keeper.

    F1r Exhaust?

I found this link for all aluminum Cobra F1r slip-ons. They say a pair only weighs 5.5 lbs, and I believe it!

Cobra F1R Aluminum Slip-on Muf :: Mammoth Motorsports

Good price too at $219 USD... but it says for VF1000F, not the R model. Will the same mufflers work on both bikes? I would think so, but who knows?

Okay now time to come clean Blight. Exactly how many hours of elbow grease did it take and how many cases of wax did you hafta go through to get it to look that shiny?

Thanks! Well, here's the truth: zero! Those pics above were taken right after I got it off my RAGE bike ramp-rack. Here's a couple of cell phone pics of her in the rack when I pulled into the yard, and she's just as pristine and minty fresh (just a little road grime from a 5.5 hr trip home!)

    Astonishing! :hss:

I've seen brand new machines whose paintwork isn't anywhere near as rich and lustrous as the paint on your 25 year old machine.

Take good care of her Blight.

Did you pick this bike up in Redding and may I ask what you paid? Just curious as I thought of making an offer for that one and it disappeared aboot the time you got this bike.

Blight, I'm diggin' the bike carrier.

I Googled around a bit and seem to be coming across Rage or Rage-type carriers that are made for a 2" Class III receiver. That the one?

My only concern> It's rated for 600 lbs. and yuh, VF100R's are a hair over that at 275 kg (606 lb). Is that like a "best before date"? lol

Looks perfect for my use - I guess the only thing I'd do is buy some secondary magnetic tail lamps as the bike, in place, would would obscure the tails of my pickup.

Really nice!! Curious as to the lack of gold top clamp? The 86 had some gold pieces on it if I remember correctly. If anyone else wants a set of VFR handlebars for their 1000R let me know.
