That's why I'm trying to convince her to let me get it. I think I may be close, however, I've used all of my ammunition and need a reload. I'm able to get a great deal on one and I've used that, I've used the gas mileage which will make at least half of the payment, I've used how much fun and comfortable it will be "for her" to take trips with me on, especially to the mountains and the beach. I've used how much better I will work and how much more at peace I will be without this eating at me. Also, her father rides, her mom's boyfriend rides, many in my family ride, and all support me. Like I said, I'm close, I've shot the whole box of ammo and just need one more clip.

I love to ride my bike and I am into bikes. I let any lady I am interested in know that up front (I do not con or lie to ladies about anything). If the woman is a real partner and I want to get a new bike, I expect some support. If money is not an issue then what is the problem? Personally I have been very lucky and have been romantic and friendly with some ladies that are really awesome people and great partners. If you can keep the romance alive in your relationship (little things like flowers, romantic dinners, and send your lady and her mother to the spa for a day of pampering) and if you have a true friendship then I feel the lady would have every reason to want to see you happy. Being romantic, thoughtful and spending time with your lady are the real important things that women have told me makes them happy with the realtionship. A happy woman is more likely gonna let you be happy.

I'm thinking there more to this, I'd take her out, not to fancy of a place but a nice place never the less, so you two could talk it out, first see if you can get to the real issue at hand. Not the bike question either, thats way later, maybe the next day or two, this is to figure whats going on. I find it really interesting what makes them females think the way they do. If she's really honest she at the least owes you the whats what in that, could be something you haven't seen, maybe its a bur up her ass.. you're just going to have to talk it out of her. Believe me, it's not you wanting a VFR thats the problem.

Just a couple more facts if you are inclined...are you and have you been bringing money in the last couple years with a paying job? or have you been writing songs and trying to get a recording contract? If it was me and I'd been working and bringing in at least as much $ as the wife and $ truly isnt an issue, I don't see why she'd have a problem. If on the other hand she's been the breadwinner and supporting your time writing songs, I'd leave this issue alone.

As a life long bachelor, I say, "Man up and get the bike!!"
Which could shed some light on WHY I'm a life long bachelor.

What about stating fact? This bike is a 25th Anniversary Special Edition. It won't be around next year, at least not with this tag and more than likely not with the color scheme. If you want it, you need to get it while you can. I think that she might be able to understand that this is an opportunity that you won't have come next year.

Over the last two years I have been making just less than her by about $2500-$5000 a year, all the while writing songs, recording demos, and doing shows. That is until recently, when she left her job to take some time off, which is why she is out of the country. Granted, her job was stressful, especially at the end. Right now she is in Belize, yeah real tough time off. She's working some with her mom on "realestate development" there. Her getting to spend 3 months in tropical paradise while I work overtime, write and record is another reason I feel like I deserve this, however, that is a bit of ammo I'm not prepared to use as it could create some... tension to say the least.

It seems to me that the best thing you could do is NOT buy the bike. Figure it out: what's gonna cost more - the bike or the marital unhappiness (remember that not all costs can be figured in dollars and cents). There will always be another RWB VFR for sale somewhere.

Here's a suggestion: put the bike on lay-away. I know it'll kill ya knowing you own a bike and can't ride it, but YOU"LL STILL OWN IT. Since this is arguably the only year you'll be able to buy a brand new RWB bike, you could use that as a rational point. Promising not to ride it might appease the kitchen goddess enough to feed you for another year.

To finish, honor the agreement you made with your wife.
Just my 2 cents (Canadian) worth.

No problem, I'm a singer/songwriter with an emphasis right now on songwriter. I also work in retail, just to feed my wife and I until dreams come true. It's just a matter of time. Ha, now that I mention it that seems to be the story of my life. I'll let you guys know how it goes when I talk to her about it next week. The main two reasons for the agreement in the first place was:

#1- me paying someone else too much attention and her not enough. i confess to that and I was wrong.

#2- I wasn't working as hard as I should have been toward my dreams. Ergo, she wanted to give me incentive, and it has helped.

I now have made tremendous strides in showing my faithfullness to her and my career and also incredible strides in advancing our relationship along with my career. So,... I think, maybe... it's time for a lot of things

You asked for our help, we need clarification - what have you been doing for the last 2 years for $ and how much have you made per year? depending on your answer I can come up with some good ammo.

This was my response. I won't say exact figures. We are not rich, but were are definately not impoverished. 50-60k Take home per year. And a pretty good realestate investment that we are working on cashing in on now.

Tell her life's short, and you've agonized for the last 2 years waiting to buy your dream bike which is only available this year. Ask her for this favor - put it in those words - tell her how much it means to you. I'll be honest, if she says no I'd rethink whether she's worthy.

Oh man...you are in a pickle. I really can't give you advice on this one. I don't think/act like most women around bikes...'cause it's been my passion since 15 years of age. But - I'll ask you a few questions..... and play "devils advocate" while I'm at it.
But first...maybe ask her if it's more than just the bike she's worried about? Maybe she's worried you won't write songs if you're out riding? Just a thought...
Have you owned a bike before? Ridden for long? I've known more than a few dudes that have "lusted" after their favorite bike - only to realize that riding wasn't for them. I noticed you didn't mention riding any of the bikes you sat on.

I'd like to hear her side of the story before I can suggest anything beyond the very superficial. There is obviously more to this story than "lusting after your favorite machine".... We've all been there at some point in time.

I'll take my devil horns off now. Make the best choice that will let you sleep at night.
    Good luck!

The only thing that I've ever owned and ridden extensively has been dirt bikes and an old Yammy dual purpose. However, I have ridden a cousins bike (who is so much older, he's more like an uncle) and I've ridden the inlaws bikes, Dyna Wide Glide and an Ultra Classic. On that note, the only people I've really known with bikes are these family members.

chesthing- I like the last thing you said. Point well stated. But she is worthy, if anything I'm not worthy.
