Just had a compression test for my Gen 5 today, the engines not missing and spark plugs were perfect in color but with a cold engine it came back between 125psi lowest and 135psi highest. The mechanic advised the readings were good and within spec for the mileage ( 36,000 miles ) with many lower mileage motorcycles he has tested below 120 but the Haynes manual indicates the Gen 5 should be 142psi lowest.

The Compression tester is a good quality unit but not motorcycle specific is there a difference ?

Has anyone compression tested their VFR800 cold and what was the results ?

compression tester is a compression tester - no difference.

Those results would be normal for a cold VFR and are well within 10% of each other.

    no concerns what-so-ever

Next time could you please give us the year and model of bike instead of "Gen 5" Thanks.

BTW when the compression test was performed was the throttle wide open?

A VFR800 Gen 5 is from '98* to '01 with mine being a '99 the compression test was run with the engine over an hour cold and the throttle wide open, is this clarification for a reason Donald ?

Who came up with this "generation" shit that is being bought into? Never saw any of that on either of my VFRs. Where it flops it that it's not precise and doesn't discribe the exact year of manufacture.

Go to any gig and the next time somebody asks about a VFR, puff all up and say "It's a gen X" and the dude will go," WTF? " then boogie off because you didn't share and doesn't want to take your pic with his cellphone or ball your sister.

So why not just say 1999 VFR MK1, then we can all be on the same page and even look up information about your particular motorcycle.

As a mechanic I always want to know the year and month and model to get the correct info for diagnosing problems.

Sorry it was lazy of me to throw it up as a General Gen question and agree when someone asks a technical question they should be build specific, mine is a VFR800FiX 3/99.
