I need some help with approval (not credit) on getting the viffer in my garage. I have sat on just about every bike that I can at every dealership in the area. The ones that I've found that are comfortable are too heavy. The ones that are light enough weren't comfortable at all. Needless to say I'm in love. I've got to have it. One small problem (the wifey), and I need some help. She is not averse at all to me having one, and money is not the issue. The issue is that she made me agree not to get one until I reach a certain point in my... profession. Well, I am now within a year of that point, I know it, but I need some help convincing my wife to let me get it now. This nice spring weather is killing me too! Please help.

I say go for it. Tell your wife that there isn't going to be a 2008 VFR, since there most likely won't be. In other words, if you want a new one, this is probably your last chance.

    KC-10 FE out...

More details...how long ago was this agreement made? how long have you been married? what's the point you agreed you'd be at?

Boy I don't know. You are in a pickle. I would have never made that kind of deal! What if you get an older one? Does that shave time off say one year for one year? You could prob find one a year old still on the showroom. I know there is a white one that's just sitting in San Luis Obispo, Ca for a year or so. Good luck.

    dont say that

I bought a new 600 sport bike .did not tell the wife just brought it home:biggrin: she was pissed I had never mentioned motorcycles before.
after calming her down swaring I would not kill myself and showing I could afford it ( I spent a year secritly saving and planning)I said the magic words It is easyer to ask for forgiveness than permission. She got realy pissed and walked out. :frown: then she came back and got over it:wink:

I wasn't going to go into too much detail, but here goes. Agreement was made just over two years ago. As a result of something incredibly stupid that I did, in the please forgive me phase, which I'm still in btw, I agreed. We will have been married two years in June. As far as the point at which I agreed to be at, well I'm a singer/songwriter, and am quite literally this close () (meaning the space between () ) to a publishing deal, the only question being who with. One problem with the year thing. I am lusting after the RWB paint scheme. Oh yeah, the better to ask for forgivness than beg for permission, that line has been mentioned, she said, and I'm sure those of you that are married can hear the tone, "just try it" with "the look". And may I also mention, when I first saw this bike ( the one in my sig) and sat on it, I sent a pic to my best friend along with a short message "Are you prepared to come to my funeral (not b/c of wreck), or my divorce hearing."

I am sure glad that I am not in your shoes.

Somehow I don't think that there will be a lot of left over Captain America VFRs.

Wish I had a solution for you.

Hopefully, your marriage will last longer than this attack of bike lust. Long term relationships are built on trust.

To make things even more complicated, my wife is out of the country, ...until the end of April. Several have told me it was a no brainer.

    My best argument....

If you've never seen a man eat his own head, can you truly say you have seen everything?

Whew! wow man, crazy. Hmm if she really loves you and understands your passion, this really shouldn't be much of an issue. What is it that has your wife up in arms? Good to hear you respect her wishes, But man what about the other way around. What does she want out of life? her hobbies if she has any? needs to by a two way street IMO. Yea I'm all about the buy it and ask her permission for forgiveness, been there done that. If it only takes a motorcycle to kill the relationship then there's bigger issues at hand I'm afraid, ask how I know. Any way as I see it from here looks like at the least to play it smart to wait for her to get back, that way it doesn't look like it was done behind her back. maybe on one trip to town you just happen to swing by the dealer with here in stride, see how that goes, again if she really loves you for who you are she'll get over it, if not, Damn you're going to miss here right? Best of luck

Have you heard about the guy that sold his almost brand new GSX-R1000??? It read:

'GSX-R1000 for sale, excellent condition. Reason for sale: bought without proper consent of my wife... Apparently, "Do whatever the f*ck you want" doesn't quick mean what I thought it did.'

This may not be as hard as your making it out to be!

Most women want to see "responsibility" in their relationships. Have you just lusted after the bike and talked about wheelies, hanging off, and general hooligan talk, which most women are not impressed with, or have you signed up/taken the MSF course, been reading the proficient motorcycling books, or doing anything showing you are serious about riding?

If not, sign up and take the MSF course ASAP, get the books, buy good riding gear and don't act like a dummy on the 2007 and you will show her that this is not a phase or whatever. Don't give her the ammo to say: "I told you so"!

Its hard to argue with somebody that takes their passion serious. In addition, I agree with RVFR, if she would leave because you got a bike, then there are issues beyong bike ownership.

Hey Viffer Ladies! What advice do you have for this cat?! He needs your advice too!

Good Luck on your career too!

I couldnt disagree any more with this logic. What you are saying is if the wife really loves him she will overlook him breaking an agreement that they made. Any decent marriage is based on respect and trust, and something like this could be the start of a failed marriage. This isnt just about a bike purchase, it's about showing disrespect and providing strong evidence to his new wife that his word is not to be trusted.
To answer his question, he needs to just talk to her again about it - if she says the same thing he should forget it for now. Recording contract? it's hard to think of a less predictable gig than that - probably the reason for the agreement in the first place.
