I agree. I don't really care too much about what it's called or what gen it is, or it's intended market for that matter, I happen to love the looks of the new bike, and it /appears/ to be just what I am looking for beyond my 800. I've been rotating through the various desktop wallpapers from powersports.honda.com/vfr for the last few weeks and I can't think of a nicer looking bike within the "sport" or "ST" or whatever you want to call the VFR's genre.
I think it looks refined and modern, and to me it still looks like a VFR; I did have to look at it for a couple of days before really began to appreciate the new styling, but it didn't take long. I just hope the pricing is within my means, and most importantly that I enjoy riding it (that's the most important thing to me, and I'm a "Classic"); I can't wait to take one for a spin!
CW had good things to say about the bike recently( Cycle World - First Ride: 2010 Honda VFR1200F ) , and that just made me antsy

    Anyway... I'm exited!

    Matt

I still think it would have been more appropriate and keeping with the lineage to name it the VF1200R. Engine, weight and power are much closer to our 1KR's than any of the VFR bikes. But whatever, I don't work for Honda and it's their call ultimately. Probably too much time has passed since the VF series to resurrect it.

In the 80's almost all of Honda's bikes were V-4s. Heck I saw an interview with the guy who designed the CBR900 series and he said the V4 was the best engine design for the track or street. Maybe they have found a way to make V4s more economical to produce? I think the bike is en evolution of the VFR800. Look at the pics and videos, it's the same size and basic setup, just the bigger motor many have been crying for for years, basically with Heli bars installed (yuck). How can you not call it a VFR, it's not that different. All of the Interceptors were VFXXX(X)F Interceptors no matter the displacement. The RC30 was a VFR750R. Just cause it's 1200cc doesn't make it a completely different bike. Personally I still have issues calling an bike without gear driven cams a VFR. For 17 years that was part of the package. The VFR1200F is a revolutionary evolution, not a completely different bike.

Is it just me or are the VTEC'ers crying the loudest. I guess it's their turn now. :D

As for 7th gen, we'll just have to see if there is a new VFR800F.

    Rich

You know what would be nice? A VFR750R. Something that really made the GSX-R750 nervous, but was easier to ride around town and comfortable for more than a 20 minute track session.

Honda calls it a VFR. Ergo, it IS a VFR! ;-)

Ditto- I guess that's what I was getting at. Did anyone notice the "Evolution of the VFR" background on the 1200's website? Seems like kind of a statement to me.

I have watched more than a few videos with reference to the blackbird. I guess I must have missed this bike through my "no bike years"...all 21 of them. I have heard epic stories and affection aimed at that bike. Candidly it resembles a Baluga whale in my eyes. I owned a 3rd Gen VFR and just purchased the 1200. To me the VFR has always been about defining a class of bike. I met the President of Honda automobiles years ago...everyone around the table were talking about cars. During the car talk...he remained silent. I asked him how he came up through the company and he explained that he started in bikes. I informed him that I had owned a VFR 750 and it was my favourite bike. The man sitting next to me ..smiled and pointed at the President and told me that I was looking at the man responsible for the VFR. The president smiled and told me that the man sitting next to me was the chief engineer responsible for the VFR. Between the both of them ...they told stories about following the GP circuit around Europe and visiting bike dealers along the way. The Presidents dealer visits spawned the concept and the rest is history. The bike has always been about pushing the envelope. Despite frosty reviews on the V-Tec.....Honda continued to attach groundbreaking technology on the name VFR. This bike is completley in the spirit of the VFR name...in my opinion. I have not ridden for 21 years. My favourite bike was that VFR. I had not even considered another bike until I saw the new one. I have 1800 km's on the 1200 and with great respect....its every bit a VFR.

The 1200 - not the 7th Gen? Perhaps it's the 6.9th Gen. Or even the -1st Gen. Wait, it's the 38.356th Gen!

    Geez!

The 7th gen and Crossrunner threads remind me of the 6th gen threads from 4 or so years ago. Me likey. Please carry on.

Many arguments can be made but I defer to Mr. Honda. And I am proud he chose to call my bike a vfr. I don't think I would have ever pulled the trigger on a smaller VFR although I have loved the concept since the beginning. I have considered VFRs from the beginning but the smaller engine always was a stumbling block to me. I know it had enough horsepower, but I also longed for a bigger more relaxed motor. Well Mr. Honda heard me. There are probably very few motorcycle owners of any kind who didn't wish their bike weighed less. 100lbs off the 1200 would insure its place in history.

Is the 1200 a 7th gen? Once again I defer to Mr. Honda.

    Um, what?

Um, "Mr. Honda"? Soichiro Honda past away in 1991, God Rest His Soul... I do not know who this "Mr. Honda" is of whom you speak...

Bigger more relaxed ... lower revving ... more torque ... less frenetic My motor can live all day below 4000 rpm where the 800 begs for revs (according to others)

Yes Soichiro Honda is dead but I spoke as if his spirit lives on in Honda Corporation. Thanks Crusty you understood.

I do tend to write metaphorically. Sorry for the confusion.

Wow! This is an old story! How did it end? Well, the 6th gen was still the 6th gen that they got in 2010! And, lo and behold, to everyone's surprise, the knight in shining armour arrives on his trusty steed!!....
