Brake upgrade questions with F2 wheel conversion

    So here I'm finally gearing up to do the ever-so-popular CBR600F2 wheel swap on my old 87 VFR, and I find that the VFR brake rotors just won't work on the F2 wheels. Intending to use this to my advantage, I've decided to go ahead and do my planned brake upgrade at the same time.

    This basically means that I am out looking for a good set of aftermarket front and rear rotors for the F2, and while I'm at it, I'd like to replace all the brake lines with steel braided lines, AND do the line conversion on the front brakes that will eliminate that splitter unit and run both brake lines from their respective front caliper straight to the master cylinder.

    The questions I have are

    (a) what aftermarket rotors do most folks use (ie Galfer, EBC, etc.) and what kind of luck have people had with these rotors,

    (b) where can a set of good aftermarket F2 rotors be found that won't absolutely break the bank,

    (c) what are good pads to use with aftermarket rotors (I've seen the EBC HH pads seem popular, but will they work with the Galfer Wave rotors?) , and where can they be found at an affordable cost?

    (d) who sells pre-fabbed sets of brake lines for a conversion such as this, and what would be the manufacturer and part # for the kit?

    If you want better brakes just do the whole front fork swap and use the F3 front forks and brakes. Larger rotors 296mm vs 276mm, full floating discs, 41mm forks vs 37mm. You won't believe how much it will transform the feel and handling of the bike for the better. It is almost a direct bolt on. The only problem is that the newer front end does not have a speedo cable drive.

    agreed. i ended up diving even deeper into my research and thankfully found exactly what i was looking for...

    i found that EBC makes a good set of rotors that are very street-worthy, as well as much better than stock. theyre floating rotors, which seems to be standard on the F2 bikes, so with the F2 wheels i kinda need them anyways. as for the pads, horray for ebay, and having found a seller who had just what i needed, front and back. my EBC double-H pads are already ordered and en route! and in a happy turn of events, i happened to run across another seller who just happened to have Galfer Stainless brake lines....2 sets, one for the front, one for the back, and they dont seem insanely expensive at that.

    the moral of this story.....mods for a 25 year old bike are a serious PITA to find, but with enough research and diligence, you might surprise yourself with what turns up and where it might be.

    I applaud you guys that go to the trouble of swapping all the F2 wheels and stuff to go to radials and adjust the ride height, that stuff is too much work for me.
    Same reason I don't care to modernize my old K3 750, I want to ride the technology of the time, if I go modernizing all the crap on the bike the spirit of the ride gets lost, I lose the feel of riding a bike from 1973 or 1986. But, each to his own, I guess I am starting to turn into a luddite geezer.

    Probably explains why I like my tube amplifiers, LP's and my Klipsch speakers, the old stuff never gets old for me.
