I just got back from an early evening ride. I was playing around on a back road-took the bike up to just about 6000rpm in 1st and nailed it-the front end came up about a foot!
Wow, the shamoo can wheelie...seemed like it hit the rev limiter before I could hit the paddle for 2nd.
Tried it again just to make sure it wasn't my imagination-yep it works-tried a third time and no go-seems like you have to catch it just at the right rpm to get full power and if you aren't really quick on the trigger it will bang into the rev limiter before you can grab second.
Maybe the clutch is not really made for this?

    Anybody else try this?

Don't know for sure but I got down on mine in second and when it settled down a tad the front wiggled like it reconnected with the ground. Might be why my back wheel looks kind of ragged with 2400 miles on it.

Yes I have, and it most certainly does.....have done it several times, once or twice by mistake too..!

There's plenty of torque to be had in the 5000-6500rpm range, the DCT clutches can handle plenty......how many have you heard of that have failed?? None that I'm aware of..! I've had mine down at my local drag strip for a few laps with no ill effects. If you time it right you can catch 2nd and keep her up, the trick is to keep the rpm's in the meat of the torque curve. Mind you, the torque curve is pretty flat.

    Cheers,
    BS.

Well this is great news! I'm going to try to make its little fat ass reach for the sky tomorrow! The guys at the local Honda dealer also told me that one of their customers did a wheelie with a DCT by "bouncing it".

Five posts and he's bragging already. Bunkie, we all ride.

Excuse me but i'm NOT IMPRESSED ! I've seen videos of better riders than you wheelie Goldwings.

What, are you 22 years old ??

Wheelies are examples of juvenile, irresponsible risk-taking conduct that abuse your bike and create unfavorable images of all motorcycle riders. However, they never fail to impress 8 year old boys, but is that why you ride ??

You may think you're simply offering information to smug, self-satifsied rich guys with good jobs like you to other 1200 riders, but i think you're simply bragging and setting a poor example.

Sorry, but i know about too many crashes and 2 or 3 or 4 deaths as a result of local wheelie-madness just around here. Nationally, the number would be astronomical.

Yes, i'm very, very OLD, and when it comes to showing off on a motorcycle, i think it's stupid.

Mostly, i believe, peer pressure motivates irresponsible behavior like wheelies, so let's organize peer pressure to stop it.

Rant over.........until the next wheelie post. Someday i'll get banned, i know.

OH, wait !! If you just won a race on a track, a wheelie is fine.

    I agree

I agree with squirrelman, he should totally get banned if he's going to continue to sit on his high horse and judge others on why they ride, how they ride or what exactly they should be doing while riding. We all know the possible consequences of our actions so no preaching is needed

He is is first gear so he isn't going very fast. He isn't one of those retards doing this going 90 down the highway(at least it sounded like it). If you want to try to do a wheelie in a parking lot or a short street with nobody around in FIRST GEAR by all means have a good time. I did a wheelie once on the 800 on accident and it was fun and scary all at the same time.

Get the stick out of your butt and let someone share their experience without getting yelled out because you had some kid fly by you at 100 on one wheel.

Rant justified. If you want to pull stunts, do them on the track or at a certified park for stunting, not on the street. I already have a hard time telling non motorcyclist that I don't do that kind of stuff and with more and more riders doing this it becomes more of a problem for us all. (Wheelies, speeding, passing on the right or between cars, tailgating, etc) When people see a rider doing moronic things on their bike, people automatically think ALL riders are like that. Its the same way people perceive Harley riders or Hells Angels. Only riders understand that not ALL riders are alike so please don't add to the problem. Thank you!

I have seen 20 year olds with brand new bikes busted up because they were riding wheelies... now if you can set the bike down like an air force pilot instead of a Navy pilot your not gonna tear shit up as fast...... but do it in a P/L or somewhere off the road you endanger innocent bystanders by doing "stunts" on the street....

As somebody who has been riding since his 20's, I'll go ahead and chime in on this one.

    (1) Squirrelman couldn't be more right. It's tragic in my eyes that 180 horsepower -400 lb. literbikes are available to any chump who can come up with $12k (or whose mommy and daddy will irresponsibly splurge $12k). all you little "stunna" knobs need to cut the BS, and grow a man-sized wang so you don't have to show off for little kids and make the rest of us look bad just so you can feel like more of a man.

    (2) there is a time and place for everything. if you wanna ride 150+ or drag knee, go to a track. if you wanna use your gas tank for a seat more than you use the seat itself, FINE! take it to a parking lot or a sanctioned event.

    (3) pull your head out and realize that the 10% of people who ride irresponsibly tend to form the entire opinion of the general driving public, so when they see the other 90% of us, they think we're going to drop 2 gears or pull the front wheel up.

sure, bikes are fun. theyre freaking awesome. theyre fast as SHIT, and have capabilities that cages can only dream of. I'm gonna pull a comic book cliche and remind you that with great power comes great responsibility.

if you DO insist on wearing shorts and sandals on you bike, riding 100+ everywhere you go, riding wheelies an stoppies on the freeway, fine. whatever. just do us all a favor and leave your helmet at home, so when you finally DO pitch your bike, your mangled skin can be cut off and your organs can go to people who actually need them so you can finally say you did something intelligent with your life.

I don't know... I read the original post again. Says he was on a back road (translation to me is no school, vehicles, shopping centers, commuters, bicyclists, skateboarders, movie go-ers, grocers, gas stations, deli's, ...) and decided to get on the gas. The wheel came up and he had a good time with it. Big deal.

I don't care who you are or where you live. At one time or another, you've probably done something that someone found offensive, irresponsible, childish or stupid.

What's that?? You rode half a mile to the neighbors house without full gear? You must be an idiot.
So, you say you went 85mph on a 65mph slab? Lawbreaker.
Oh, you took that turn with a suggested speed limit of 25mph at 40mph? You are obviously a hooligan.

IMO - give it a rest. People always have done stuff on bikes that others are not going to agree with. And the chances of changing the general public's opinion of us is slim to none.

I say if you had a good time doing a wheelie, and it was in the right place with no one else to be endangered, good for you.
