I would really like to see a 2007 VFR with the Competition Werkes fender eliminator kit. My bike is bone stock and I actually like the mufflers, but think all the plastic hanging down is kind of dumb. I am from Pennsylvania, so I'm very concerned that my plate will not fit between the cans with a kit. A picture of someone else's bike with the plate attached would help. I might also ask you to measure the width of your license plate to compare it to mine.

By the way, I never post because I mainly fell out of love with biking for a couple years. But this bike is a dream and I could no longer let it sit in my garage. Riding to work on about 7 miles of twisties a day has brought me back.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Click the "Photo Gallery" link under my avatar and you'll see some shots of my '07 which has the Competition Werkes fender eliminator. Basically, you can't see the plate at all except directly from behind. It looks much better than the stock rear fender.

Thank you!!!! Did you have to "spread" the cans in any way to make your license plate fit? Would you be willing to measure the width of your plate for me?

I have a NY plate which is exactly 7" wide. It just fits between the pipes with no messing around at all to get it to fit. If your plate is wider than that, then you might need to trim it down. There is maybe 1/10 of an inch between the plate and the pipe on each side.

I posted this thread a while back about installing it. Take a few minutues and read it as I bet it will save you unnecessary frustration and use of four letter words.

ScooterDog - I just checked the PA website and it does look like motorcycle plates are only 7" wide, so you should be good to go. Getting rid of the stock fender improves the looks immensely.

Here is the back end of mine. You cannot see the plate from the side. It sits back about 4 inches from the back of the exhaust. There is a very small space on either side of the plate.

Thanks, men. My plate is 7.125" wide, so it's going to be a tight fit, but I think I'm going to go for it. Stewart, that tip is crucial. I'm having a hard time understanding how Competition Werkes prototyped the installation without it. I'll post some pics when I get it done.

The white wheels you have on your '07 look great! Oh, and I think I'll go with the fender eliminator too.

The '07 should have come with the white rims as part of the RWB anniversary color scheme. It just doesn't look right otherwise. Powdercoat the rims white, add the fender eliminator and the bike will have the character it should have had from the factory.

I made my own for my 03. If you like, I can try to get you a picture if what I did. Just let me know and I will email the link to you.

Biggdadd58: I'm not very handy -- ask my wife -- and only have very basic tools, so making my own would present the dual challenge of having to craft something that didn't look homemade and having it installed by a mechanical idiot. I chose the Competition Werkes because it only presents the challenge of having it installed by a mechanical idiot.

The "tape the nut in the wrench" trick has me intimidated, for sure. But seeing as how other humans have accomplished it, I figure the worst that can happen is I have to find a human to help me.

If you have a hacksaw, two vice grips and a drill it is very easy. Go to your local home improvenpment store and buy some aluminum stock that is 1/4x1x12 and two bolts that are 3/8x1. cut two pieces off the aluminum that are about 2 1/2 inches long, Stack the pieces on each
other and clamp them together. Drill two holes using a 7/16 drill bit in each piece about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Using a pair of vise grips bend the two pieces at
about 1 1/2 in from the end in a 90* angle.

Take the two pieces and mount the to the two bolt holes under the fender that are about 6 or so inches from the back of the bike using the shorter end to mount. Take the last piece and hold it up center, mark the two holes with a sharpie. Take the two pieces off the bike, using two bolts mouth the three pieces together. Lay your plate over the new mount and mark the two top holes on it. Drill them out. Mount the bracket back on the bike. Mount the plate.

You lost me at "hacksaw." Just kidding. But I really don't have a hacksaw. Haven't ordered the CW yet. Maybe this weekend.

Asked the wife if I could have $75 for something completely frivolous (we're on a budget, ok?) and she said "absolutely." DING DING DING! We have a winner. Ordered the CW kit today from Newenough/Motorcyclegear. Should get here in time for next weekend.

My first attempt was similar to the one posted.

But the law said it was an "obstructed license plate" and I got a ticket so I did this:

And I am using the lights that mount in the license plate mounting bolts like such:

The small LED lights were like $20 at a local bike shop.

I have not got a light on it yet. I am ordering a Joe Florida 114 led light kit, along with a 3 white led to use for the plate light.

I think these look great but I can't see a way to do it. A standard UK plate won't fit between the cans and they're getting very hot on non-standard plates around here now. Probably because they rely so much on remote enforcement by cameras instead of proper traffic policing by officers on the road in cars and on bikes.

Holy cow! That's the UK plate size? That thing is HUGE. Comfort yourself with all the great roads you have to ride and the fact that when you're riding, you never have to see that monstrous tag.

Noobtastic: What state or municipality deemed your plate obstructed? Hope this isn't a trend.
