I'm the owner of an '83 VF750F. Twice now the fairing-stay has cracked. The first time I had it rewelded. I installed it and rode it for a year, but it just cracked again in two new spots. I won another fairing-stay from ebay, but who's to say this won't continue to happen. So, I'm looking for alternatives.

Can I find some parts from another bike and attach the headlight/instrument cluster directly to the steering column and completely skip having the front whole fairing and fairing-stay? Any other ideas, or specific parts to get the job done? Thanks.

    Fairing Break

I TOO HAVE AN 83 AND HAVE SUFFERED THE EMBARASEMENT OF HAVING TO HOLD MY FAIRING ON THROUGH A STOPLIGHT...(NOT FUN!!!) BEFORE YOU MOUNT IT MAKE SURE THE RUBBER GROMETS BEHIND IT ARENT HARDENED, AND OR MISSING. CHECK THAT THE MOUNTS HAVENT BEEN WELDED BACK ON FROM AN ACCIDENT, AND UPDATE THE MOUNTING SCREWS...ANY OF THE FIRST SECOND OR THIRD GEN WILL DO. I PUT NEW RUBBER ON MINE AND NEW BOLTS ($7.00) AND ITS BEEN GOOD TO 120MPH.

back home in Missouri, bailing wire seemed to be a popular choice for holding things on vehicles. I prefer duct tape. (sorry couldn't resist)

That is a really odd problem, one that I have never heard of before. What is the history of the original stay that keeps breaking? Was it ever involved in an accident? Is it rusted? Are the fairings in decent shape and attached correctly?

There really isn't much load on the fairing stay, so I'm thinking that failure would have to come from a different source.

Well, the bike had a salvage title when I got it, and by the looks of the other repaired damage on the bike it was probably crashed. I know it was stolen. Anyway, the fairing stay had minor rust and retained the original black paint, and it was mounted correctly, as was the fairing that rested on it, though the fairing always rested kind of crookedly where it met the tank. I ordered a new one off ebay, and hopefully that will hold.

I'd say a different part will fix the problem. That fairing stay just led too hard a life!

you were looking for the Lockhart lowers correct? at the moment, the front fender, Kerker's and rear shock have been spoken for.

very little rust on the bike, frame is in great shape.
