No, I haven't switched maps. ...but since they mounted the switch on the bars, I have the option to have a 2nd map available. I honestly don't know what I would use it for, but perhaps someone who did track days would find it useful to have a map that ran differently?

...maybe for someone who has to get their bike smog-checked (OEM map)?

Okay, I'm not getting it. I thought the bike was producing 170hp at the rear wheel? Is SAEpower the same measurement?

    rwhp

All the dyno runs I have seen for the VFR1200 are right at 150hp.
Could be about 170hp at the crankshaft; around 12% loss to the rear wheel is normal.
Maybe even more for a shaft drive bike.
The CBR1000 puts out about 160hp at the rear wheel for comparison.

Right. I don't really notice the power problem between first and second to any big extent yet. As I get more clicks on, I'll probably understand it better. Does the problem exist when you're cornering in town? I'm finding, for example, if I'm coming into the subdivision, I can just keep it in first.

    power dip

As the dynos show, there is a big dip in power in 1st and 2nd gear. Like when you are say making a tight slow corner, the acceleration stumbles and is jerky. Jerky is bad; smooth is good, especially in the middle of a corner.
I'm pretty happy with the FI and throttle smoothness now.
Before, if I was to race another bike from either a stop or 1st gear roll on, there was a really long lag or bog before the power came "on" after the big dip as shown on the dyno.

    good work Zen!

    Zen,
with the Z bomb, do you have a reading of third gear on the dash when it is in first and second gear? I thought they said this would be the case but wanted to confirm.

Also, I talked to the folks at Bazzaz and they said that they cannot say if the z bomb will work on the DCT until they put one to the test on their dyno etc....anyone with a DCT in CA willing to take one for the team????:VFR1200F:

I would, but I'm not in the area!!
I really bolted off the line the other day when a Cadillac SVT pulled up beside me. I thought I maybe slipped the clutch for a second, but maybe it was the power drop? I'll try it again.

    1st and 2nd

The fix of 1st and 2nd makes a big difference on take offs.

Yes, my display reads 3rd until I make it up into 4th gear. I thought it would bother me, but it really doesn't; it's pretty obvious what gear you're in (1st is just short, 2nd is my "go to" gear for local twisties, and if I'm over 60mph and not spooling up the motor ...I'm in 3rd. ;)
