    All:

Good afternoon. Also registered w/same nom de plume on St.Owners.com. Even though I own a Triumph, I must have a thing for Sport Touring bikes and v-4's in particular.

Need advice and guidance. My brother-in-law just bought an '83 VFR - he doesn't have e-mail, and is looking to replace a rear tail light (snapped off near seat pan cowling). Where's a good source to find such an item? (I tried e-bay yesterday, along with Bike Bandit.com, with no success).

Thanks all very much in advance - and by the by, this don't have to be a new part - just one that works

I would try low end dealers that specialize in crashed/salvage bikes. Every big city has them. Near DC we knew a guy called Cycle Pros in Springfield VA. Bigger dealers won't have what you want most likely. Junkyards too, but so much time wasted.

I ended up replacing a taillight on my 84 VF500 from ebay. I went for a ride and lost just the lens but had to buy the whole thing to fix it since no one was selling just the lens. Was there a VFR in 83? Im thinkin VF 400 and VF 750. I have had pretty good luck with bike bandit usually. The other suggestion ab ove is good also, but verify that the make model are correct just to be sure.

Welcome to the group. Reg is right. To my knowledge, the 83 - 85 models were VF's. But they are still V-4's, so they still count. I'd say getting one through a dealer is practically a no go, since these parts would be out of production and are generally not kept in stock. But it never hurts to ask. Try servicehonda.com. Other options, one of which you have mentioned above, is E-bay. Just have to keep an eye out there to see if one pops up. You could also do a google (or whichever is you search engine of choice) search for motorcycle salvage places. Might get lucky and find one that way, too. Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

    VaRollOn, Reg 71, Vinny:

Thanks for the replies and advice. I think all y'all are right - I do believe the 83 is a VF.

He (my bro-in-law) did think of the salvage route.....and ended up going to our local Honda dealer and paid 50 bux for the replacement (I think he was too lazy to wrench the part off a wrecked bike in zero degree weather!).

Again, thanks much..............and now to my next topic:

Is the VFR 800/Interceptor a good two-up bike? As I mentioned in my intro, I have a Triumph (Speedmaster) that I like a lot.....but when my spouse and I ride, it just don't have enough cookies to get the job done. It's darn comfy (first farkle was Corbin saddle and pillion), but needs more beans. One of the reasons I'm on other boards is to find a sportier ride with good two-up capabilities, so any advice and guidance you can share is most welcome (FYI - total carry w/both is about 350).

Thanks much in advance - take care.

    Don

cool beans. 2 up is ok on the VFr. My wife and I have done 300+ in a day without being too uncomfortable. I weigh just shy of 200 she weighs in around 125ish. It's probably not the best 2 up bike, though. If you're like me and mostly ride 1 up but want to be able to cruise 2 up all day occasionally, it's a pretty good bike. If you're doing 2 up a lot, I'd go for a bigger displacement bike.
