Some time ago I noticed that the not-sold-in-the-United-States 88-89 model VFRs had a couple nifty features on their clusters that the earlier bikes lacked, such as a clock and a fuel level gauge. I've sourced the cluster and fuel tank sender from a breaker in the U.K.; right away I see the fuse panel, which I had assumed would simply be behind the clock, is not. A quick search reveals that it's in a separate 'pod' that somehow fits under the right side filler panel between the tank and the fairing. Before I dive headlong into this, has anyone out there done this before? I would really appreciate your sharing the details of this job...This is part of a larger bit of work that will include CBR F3 forks and F2 wheels.

    Thank you,

    Rick

I read somewhere that the gauge cluster mount is different. The speedo is differently geared from 86-87 to 88-89.

I happen to own an 88. I replaced the cluster with one from a ninety cuz I got tired of doing math around cops(speedo was in km/h). It was pretty much a direct swap. I did have to reroute the low fuel light to the tach so that it(the tach) would work. I am not that familiar with an 87 but I dont think location is an issue. You would probably just need to make sure the boxes are the same or if you could mount an 88 box in the same location as the 87 is. Also the clock has its own wiring harness, independent of anything used for the cluster. I know this doesn't really answer your question, but hopefully it is of some help to you.

Thats probably due to the different wheel size so with F2 wheels he should be good to go. The speedo asm is not actually part of the cluster any way it just connects to it.
