New guy checking in. My name is josh. I am from Cincinnati ohio. I just picked up my first vfr yesterday. Its a 1986 vfr 700. The bike is in pretty good condition. Set aside from a little cleaning and tlc that is. Other than that the only thing it needs is the front upper fairing. The holes where you connect the side fairings to the upper center are broke. Yet the side fairings are fine. How the previous owner managed that i am unsure. Ive tried looking around in the area for some fairings but have not had any luck. I know fairings are not cheap. Quick question what all aftermarket fairings are available? Also is there any conversions that can be done as far as the fairings go? With those questions out of the way back to my bike. Its all stock other than a yoshimura pipe. My idea after cleaning it up and getting things together is to have a track inspired bike. Something i can take to the track yet still ride on the streets. At first i dont plan on being competitive but later on down the line i think id like to get into in more. Well i guess i will leave it there and wrap this up for now.

welcome to the wonderful world of sportbikes aged in their mid-20's. youll find your new bike to be both a blessing and a curse. its the most fun youll likely ever have on 2 wheels, its got its own unique personality, far different from anything else youll ever ride, but on the flipside, youll be constantly wanting to mod or upgrade it, it IS 25 years old, and it comes with the problems of any 25 yr old bike, and parts arent always easy to find.

that being said, you have one awesome new toy on your hands. look around the forums, specifically in the first and 2nd gen section, and youll find more useful and valueable information on this bike than you know what to do with. the folks around here are just plain awesome, and if one member here doesnt know the answer to your question, be patient, cause ill guarantee, somebody else will eventually.

so as for your bodywork issue. this is a popular subject, as the stock bodywork is now brittle as hell after 25 yrs, and overall, kinda sucks. you have a variety of outlets that can sell you bodywork, ranging from quick, cheap, and substandard, to badass and frustratingly time consuming. I went the latter route, with a dude named Chuck Crites, owner of his own little 1 man shop he calls Cobalt Racing. So far, I have bought his solo seat tail section, carbon fiber windscreen, upper fairing, and lower fairing stays (mounts). Crites does tend to take a while, but his quality is absolutely second to none. A few searches around the forum can produce his contact info.

As for having a Yosh pipe on that bike already, count yourself VERY lucky. a 4-2-1 exhaust system is not only expensive, but pretty hard to find these days, and Yosh has always been one of the better exhaust manufacturers (at least in my opinion) out there.

If you have any other questions, just shoot em somewhere, there are plenty of experienced minds ready to hunt down an answer.
