    Hey guys,

I have been lurking here and wearing out Google etc...reading up on this bike.
Went to the dealer a week ago and they wouldn't let me ride the bike without buying it.
Got up on Friday the 1st to see if the finance incentives had changed at Honda and here is a promo ad for vfr1200 DCT demo days-with my dealer listed as participating.
Called the salesman and after a few minutes he said-yes, you can ride it-you have to be qualified to purchase but yes you can demo it!
Needless to say the demo was great-after a 2 hour wait to get the bike prepped.
I think I got a pretty good deal too-$12995 after the $400 rebate.
Anyway if you or your friends are on the fence about the bike-find a demo store and check it out...the price is finally right IMHO.

Anyway I am very excited-been riding for 35 years and absolutely love the bike!

I realize that test rides are a HUGE risk to the dealer, but I gotta think that not offering them has a HUGE negative impact on sales.

    Thanks for the welcome!
I agree it is a risk for the dealer-I think Honda realized no one was actually being allowed to ride the bikes-even though they created a demo program for the dealers to give them a cash incentive to move them. My dealer had 3 vfr1200's. 1 DTC and 2 standard-one of the owners put 200 miles on a standard but no one even rode the DCT internally! I traded in a 2008 CBR1000 that I purchased back in February from them. I saw the 1200 then but the price was way out of my league or so I thought.
When I spoke to the guy that rode the demo for awhile, he was kind of Meh...about it...probably because they had 3 on floorplan and had sold 0 in over a year...lol.

Honda needs to do more to promote the bike here in the US-somehow it has gotten the red headed stepchild treatment-which is totally undeserved...maybe the factory rep should attend a demo day with a few bikes for people to ride?

I just turned 50 and although I LOVED the CBR, it just wasn't practical enough for a 1 bike garage.
Don't feel like I am ready for a Goldwing or ST either-I guess I am the target demo they were shooting for.
Just about 350 miles on it now and really cracked it in Sport mode in 2nd and when it passed 6000-I swear it took off like the CBR!
Again I have been riding for awhile but just got into street bikes about 5 years ago.
    I had a 2004 VFR800 that I liked but found a little boring-no disrespect to the 800 guys.
I had a Blackbird that was incredible but a little stiff over bumps and really hard to hold the speed down on-just like the 1000.
The DCT is in another league in everything but pure straight line speed-but is plenty fast for me.
Rode with a buddy that has a Harley and we stopped for a break and he was admiring the paint in the sun-we talked bikes for awhile and I told him I felt Honda was going after BMW with this bike-he agreed and said-"they nailed it".
Looking forward to some great dialog here and maybe finding a fellow rider in Southern NJ to meet up with.

Congratulations you're going to love the bike, I know that every time I fire her up it's smile time. Cheers. Riders here in the States when they want to head towards the touring side trend towards BMW, G-Wing or HD. Younger riders want more of true sport bike ride and price. The 1200 VFR right out of the box is pretty comfortable even for my older broken down body yet it's a very responsive fun ride.

    Congratulations, you won't look back!

I find it strange that you can't get a test ride there. Over here in the UK there was a dealer support program that meant you could do a half day test ride on a DCT. Honda are also doing roadshows where you can book a test ride slot on various bikes for an hour.
I tried the new Crossrunner while my DCT was in for a service last Saturday! It was good, but I'm not about to downgrade:tongue:

You can, it just depends on the dealer unfortunately. While no (or nearly no, excepting some high end or in demand models) car dealer would dream of not offering test drives. Apparently lots of bike dealers do. I myself have never looked at buying a new bike without test driving it, and I test drove bikes I didn't end up buying.
