Greetings from Colchester VT. I just joined the group and hope to gain some insight and general knowledge of the VFR's here. I purchased a 2007 last year and it is my first V. I had always admired the VFR's back in the 80's when I first started riding but never owned one. My past expereince is all Honda, CB650SC(83), CB700SC (84) CBR600 (88), fifteen year break, CB700SC (85). I am a weekend rider just for fun and have the good forutne of mountain roads for my rides here in Northern VT. My ride is an 07 rwb with white rims, zero gravity windsheild, fendor eliminator and rear pegs on the bench for now. I want to coat the exhaust satin black as the discoloring of the pipes is an eyesore in my mind. Anyone done this yet? Ride Safe Scott B.
Greetings from the Frozen Wastelands of Wisconsin Scott. :welcome: Congrats on scoring that RWB. :bounce: Them's purdy!!! The Stainless Steel aftermarket exhaust header and mid pipe for my '03 are currently out at Classic Coatings in Sheboygan Wisconsin for Satin Black ceramic coating. I'll post up a couple pics of the header pipes with that Satin Black coating for you when I get them back.
Welcome. Where are the pipes discolouring. Hell my 06 has 126,000 km on it (over 78,000 miles) and though they certainly do not look new, they don't look bad either. But having thought about it, maybe having them blackened may not be a bad idea. I am assuming you are not referring to the stainless heat shields though.
And your white wheels have brought me to the conclusion that I'm trading the Candy Red for that and going white wheels. Dammmm that bikes hot
for me is the little bit of the exhaust manifolds that are exposed and are rust/blue/bronzey colored. Just mod dreaming. Lets see what the photos from Stoshmonster look like. I would leave the s/s covers alone and just do everything under them black.
Your bike is identical to mine. The white rims are a great enhancement. They're a pain to keep clean, but well worth the effort. Welcome to the forum.
Here are those pics I promised you Scott. My exhaust header and mid pipe are coated both on the inside and outside of the pipes with that Satin Black ceramic coating. Looks like they've done a good job too as the coating appears to be nice and uniform. After seeing these pipes for myself I'm thinkin' you're prolly right Scott,Satin Black pipes might look pretty cool on your RWB.
They look great. I have a winter project now! That is a nice finished look, and I have to do it. If not to much to ask, what did they charge ya? Thanks Scott
Well I'm not gonna kid you Scott,it really is a nice look but it sure the heck wasn't cheap. The cost for ceramic coating just the header pipe alone was $200.00 For the mid pipe they charge you by the diameter and length of the pipe to be coated. Add in the cost of shipping and the insurance that I took out on the package and my final total came out to right about $300.00 Like I said,it wasn't cheap. Just a heads-up if you're still interested, here's the link to Classic Coatings. Click me.>>>>>Classic Coatings Inc - Metal Ceramic Coatings, Powder Coatings and Metal Fabrication Company
I painted mine with heat proof paint (especially for exhaust headers) out of a aerosol can. So far so good.....cost me about $40.00. The paint has not come off yet thankfully and hasn't seemed to be effected by stones hitting them, not that I normally ride my pride and joy on crappy roads.
Hey Mate, I have had some sucess with rattle cans also, but not sure about the temps the pipes see on the VFR. I powdered coated an exhaust for my 85cb700sc with high temp coating and it looked very much stock. Not the black chrome of the 80's but the same overall look on the bike, much better than rust.... Thanks
