I was following my brother at about 8pm and took just a wider line around a turn, and I found some gravel. I couldn't even see it, all I knew was that I was sliding on the ground. Luckily the bike is still in working condition, and I continued to ride it after wards. I was only doing about 5-10mph and I had on all my gear, I still go some rug burn from the inside of my jacket. Anyway I wanna fix it up, the clutch cover is scratched up but I think it can be repaired. I wanna bead blast it and sand it smooth, then powder coat it. As for the fairings I have a hard time justifying $1000 for two fairings. I saw the ones on ebay for $500 I just wanna know if they would be good enough here is the link VFR800i 02-06 VFR800 i VFR 800i 2002-2006 ABS Fairing | eBay

Do you guys have any opinions, this will be the first time I repair a bike like this. Anything would be helpful, I'm just bummed out to see the girl like this.

    Ouch!
    I feel your pain.
While it definitely is scraped and scuffed, it appears to be intact.
Can't it be filled and repainted?

Yes it can be repainted, I am getting some prices for the r157 paint. That was my other plan, I probably would get it repainted regardless if I got new fairings.

Really sorry to hear about your off. Are there any cracks in the fairing, and does it still line up with the other parts?

It doesn't appeaqr that therere are any cracks in the plastics...you got lucky....as for sanding them down.... go easy don't try to man handle it down all at once... take the scratches down gradually. once you get to the fresh plastic your gonna be good to go.

Shit happens when you ride a motorcycle. I've been there so don't feel alone. The fairing looks to be in good shape, ie no cracks or pieces falling off.
Fix and paint. Even at a real good body shop it should be under $500, I would think.

first off you are not an idiot and if you ride long enough you will find crappy things will happen weather while your riding (like getting a bird in the chest at 75 mph) or noticing that you installed your remote shock adjuster incorrectly and it has now damaged your two rubber brake hoses to the point where they ruptured while replacing your brake fluid. If you can paint your fairings then that would be best. I once ordered a full set of plastics from NICE CYCLE and they were the worst quality of plastic and paint (they were orange) I have ever seen in my life so they went right back, I even paid $100 out of pocket to ship the big box to Chicago and then ordered OEM plastics. Try this place Mason CIty, Iowa, Honda. Power Equipment, ATV, Motorcycle, Scooter, Dealer, Used, Parts, Service, FInancing and tell them you belong to the VFRD board and you get an addition discount on top of their already low prices, they helped me out when I had my spill and I saved a lot.

Getting married would be a lot worse, the fairings are in good shape. No cracks or real deep cuts, just mostly light scratches. The deepest part would be on the upper or front fairing, I will mostly likely have to do some putty work on that part.

Look like minor damage with no cracks or burn throughs. You won't really know until the damaged fairing panels are removed and inspected.

Unless you are well prepared and very handy, take the panels to a shop that is savvy about fixing ABS plastic and consider repainting the entire bike.

Take a look at "Tinks" posts on how to's if you feel up to the job.

All this Bondo and "fibreglass" work is iffy at best.

Tons of books on the subject and the same deal with websites. Best not to guess IMO.

An idiot? Naa..you just made the transition from one type rider to another. Them what's not been down and them what has.

Sand, bondo, sand again and repaint, and shut up cuz i'm a bigger idiot than you, and I testified to that in traffic court once, under oath so you know it's true !

Stuff like that looks much worse right after it happens but dosen't seem all that bad after 2 weeks.

We all kiss tarmac sometimes. Its part of riding a bike.

Thank god it was nothing serious other than burn rash n ego.

The fairing just need a respray but I worry is that it won't align properly when fixing it back. U may need to bend back those metal brackets behind that fairing.

Remove the fairing piece and take it to the paint shop. Then it will cost even less.

    Interesting observation and comment

Being a newbie, I just figured BB was the forum clown.
After the first few weeks, I noticed his posts were bad jokes or sarcastic remarks to other members. Even thought that BadBully might have been a better user name.
After a short time, I just skipped any of his posts.
I missed his constructive suggestions in this thread because of that.
Thinking I might have been missing some of BB's other words of wisdom, I looked at some more of his posts. Some that I had skipped previously.
After reading several, I decided I will probably continue to skip them.
