Wanting to hear any advice or experiences about ultrasonic cleaning of carb parts.

I just purchased a ultrasonic cleaner.
I also bought one gallon of Simple Green EXTREME aircraft parts cleaner too.
Please let me know ANY advice you might have for me. THANKS!

Get a timer that buzzes or dings! I kept forgetting that I put parts in mine (cheap Harbor Freight jewelry ultrasonic).

I'm looking to upgrade mine. They are Great!

I use slightly diluted standard Simple Green.

The cleaner I ordered has a timer function.
Did you get good results with your Harbor Freight machine?

No false teeth. I grew up in Arizona where there was a lot of fluoride in the water.
I have very good teeth the dentists tell me.

Don I have owned two of them in the last 30 years. I think my present one is a L&R (?).

Perhaps it the strength of the unit. I use it to clean eye glasses, it is about 3x6x4". It doesn't work that good on jets or diesel injectors. Hope that you got one with the most power possible I would use a similar solvent to what works with normal cleaning, maybe diesel fuel for safety. Be prepared for long duty cycles.

I would like to know specifics on your results.

You're one of the oldest here and still remember, like i do, that fluoridation of the American drinking water was an Evil, Subersive Comminist plot to weaken our precious American body fluids back in the McCarthyite 50s.

we have a mid size unit at work (the bike shop)

it has a timer, and a heat cycle as well.

regular ZEP parts cleaner and HEAT works wonders.

I will report back to the forum on the power and features and the results of the cleaner that I purchased.
The cleaner that WILL do the job for sure costs $400.00
I did not have that much dough.

You mean like measles and whooping cough and polio shots?
My wife is a school teacher and we know what can happen.
If one of these spoiled families could see a child with polio in a wheel chair maybe they would change their mind.

It is disgusting that our generation eradicated some horrible things and we have to repeat them because of peoples ignorance.

And for the disbelievers don't bother flaming me. I lived through those things.

Thankfully we have some laws in place to prevent children from suffering needlessly.

I never used a small machine, just large ones. Ones that were the size of a garage deep sink. I worked on submarines for 21 years and we used it to clean all sorts of parts from hydraulics to seawater valves. Worked great for getting into the smaller pilot holes in hydraulic valves. Not sure of any of the specs, but I do know that no matter what we put into it, it always came out looking pretty good. I wouldn't suspect that carbs would be any different. I would just make sure you strip off any of the rubber parts first. Good luck.

I realize there is a safety issue here - you would want to make sure your ultrasonic unit was pretty well sealed up against sparks, but I have had good luck with extra light solvents like denatured alcohol to clean tiny passages such as pilot jets. I had a pair of carbs that had sat for 8 years with gas in them - nothing was left inside but some very sticky varnish. 3 days in a closed jar with denatured ethanol and I was able to blow them clean with compressed air. Again the trick here would be figuring out how to do this safely - with an ultrasonic cleaner I guess this would be an outdoor activity! Good luck, and let us know how this works out and what you use.

I am using Simple Green aircraft EXTREME cleaner.
It is non toxic and non flammable and bio degradeable.
You could clean those idle jets.

Here is a photo and some data about the cleaner.

As you can see two carbs fit in and I can clean more that 1/2 then turn them over.
It is a Kendal brand CD4820 model about $80.00 on Ebay.
It has a heater too. It says that it is made to clean dirty mechanical parts.
8 minute cycle then 15 minutes to cool.

If you really don't want to monkey around just buy the $400.00 600W unit if
    you got the dough.

You can see in the photo how the cleaning agent is getting dirty.
They were pretty clean to start with.
I will report back with a before and after photo.

I am using Simple Green aircraft EXTREME cleaner mixed 50/50 with water.
