I was selling one of the CDI boxes for a Honda VF1000F on Ebay.
There were 5 for sale ranging from $124 up to $175.
    I listed mine for sale @ $80.00

    No one bought it.

Maybe everyone should just think about trading, and each party pays 1/2 of the shipping charges.

So I would trade my VF1000F CDI box(Nippon Denso 131100-4041) for a VF1000R CDI box and...throw in- one new stock air filter element.

Donald are those other guys who are selling, salvage yards? They normally want half of list or close to it.

Yes I'm broke also. If I needed the box I might scrape up the money. If I want to ride. Otherwise if I'm buying for just spare parts that may never be needed then I'm looking for a deal AKA CHEAP.

It's worth only what somebody will pay for it. So being in the right place at the right time has a lot to do with. Hang in there, who knows what's around the next corner.

I'm not broke but my 26 year old bike isn't priority, and I can't imagine it would be too many other's priority. I've got a honda that needs a bigger motor, a jeep that needs a chevy motor, another honda thats too slow, and another honda that needs an AC overhaul, plus saving for a down payment on a house. The bike can sit for as long as it needs to.

My wife is a 3rd grade teacher and I'm a student in my last semester before becoming a high school science teacher. Have a pretty good feeling that I will always be broke... Oh well, I have my interceptor and my wife has a bike, and we will have every summer to ride them. There are some great things in life that you just can't buy, like free time to do the things you love!

If only motorcycles weren't so expensive to maintain... thats why I'm trying to do all of the work on my bike myself, to save money on that stuff. Hopefully be doing my chain and sprockets in the next month or two, once I save up enough to buy the parts (sad that I have to SAVE UP for that). Next is brakes and Tstat. Maybe the valve job after that (pretty daunting task for an unexperienced mechanic though).

In this depression I think many people will start repairing things instead of throwing them away or buying new.
At least as far as the learning how to do it, we have this computer connection to get free info which did not exist when i was a kid and had to learn to fix things.
Make sure you really need a valve job before doing it.
I have heard way too many people talking about valve jobs, with very little mileage.
And no proof the valves were not sealing. Valve guides is another subject.
The more people repair things and request parts, the more parts will be available.

That is one reason I am against the Aluminum frame motorcycles. Repair is almost out of the question, and high corrosion rates are very likely on those frames.

TIG welding on an aluminum motorcycle frame that has been anodized is a huge subject.
Too much for this forum. Go to Weldingweb.com

I am very grateful for the help that I can get from this site, and feel much more comfortable doings things on my own knowing that I can get help from people like you, even if its only through a short post.

As far as the valve job goes, my bike has 22k on it and could get no word from the previous owner as to whether or not it was done yet. I believe that it was supposed to be done at 16 or 18k. I have a friend in motorcycle service that was honest with me and said that his shop does plenty of scheduled valve maintenance jobs and the techs tear apart a bike only to find that all the valve clearances are still within specs. So I am not too worried about getting it done ASAP, but I do want to take care of my machine to ensure a good long life for her, so I will get to it when I can.
As for the chain and sprocket job, I looked into the service manual and it doesn't look too bad, and requires no specialized tools (other than a chain breaker/riveter), so I think I should be good to go. My neighbor has the breaker and a bike lift and that should save our backs, and for the price of a six pack, he will let me use it and help me out... times is good!
Now I just start figuring out how I will bleed my brakes without buying a vacuum pump or whatever it is...
