I'm sorry but this is sad if it's true. The dealer is going to scrap your 500, because now it's in a million pieces and what else are they going to do with it?? And now there is one less low-mileage parts bike in the pipeline. You might try to see if the deal will be the same w/o the 500 (which I GUARANTEE they don't want) so you can donate it/parts to someone who needs/wants it.

I agree mtl, a 500 with only 3,500 miles on the clock, ending up in the boneyard is an unfortunate end to a great vintage bike.

I don't think so. They have a 700 in the back, not sure what year, but I sat on it. This isnt a regular dealership, its a used bike dealership. The bank needs $1500 down. If I'm paying $500, I need to make up the difference somewhere. And my bike is in one piece thank you.

Now you're making me feel bad IC. Don't make me cry. I don't really want to do it, I love the 500. I just need a reliable bike right now while I don't have a ton of money.

How much do you want for those F1 slip-ons? Any more aftermarket pieces on this bike?

If you are going to scrap anyway...

Sorry, I was going by the 1st picture you posted, and all the missing/broken parts you mentioned.

p.s. Around here 1500 will get you a good condition 12-15 year old 600 sport bike, or a minty 20 year old liter bike.... 1500 cash no payments ....

I think you have me confused with the OP of this thread. I am a different person than who started this thread. I just kind of thread jacked it. Although my bike does have some problems, it is not as bad as the OP bike. :thumb:

As far as around here... an older 600 is listed on craigslist for around $2000-2500 in the summer.

IIRC, PC's bike has 3,500 miles on the clock and the OP notes 10,000 miles on his bike. I didn't mean to cause a stir here, simply saying both bikes are great candidates for restoration.

Yea well... I don't know what you did to my decision making process, but think I decided to keep my bike for the rest for the year. Get it running, and maybe get something else in the off season when things cheapen up. I love this bike too much. I just want to ride it....

Good plan, vf500s are not only fun and beautiful, but clean ones generate attention and interest wherever you go that you will not believe until you experience it. Just pull up anyway and sit near the bike, you will make friends and find fans unlike any generic inline 600 made in the last 15 years.

yeah... I think you guys are under the impression that I bought the bike in the condition of the photo I posted earlier... not at all... it had everything there... it was just rattle canned and had aftermarket tail lights that I'm not fond of (and I think they were mounted in a different place than factory) the bike ran when I test rode it... I have since torn it down so I can fix it up. I'm just hoping to get it back on the road in a month or so...

The bike looked like this when I bought it
