Last night my wife asked me if my modifications added up to more than I paid for my 99 VFR, I never really thought about it till that point and decided to make a thread about it. Take into account that I am a cheap mofo and look for the best possible deals from the internet from reputable dealers. Here is my list of my modifications in order and does not include apparel...

    Sargent Seat $330.00
    Staintune Exhaust $450.00
    Tail Bag $52.00
    K&N Filter $40.00
    Power Commander $275.00
    Custom Map $250.00
    Suspension $1150.00
    Tires $250.00
    Graphics $350.00
    ---------------------------------
    Total $3147.00

Having the perfect bike!!! Priceless

Tires can't be considered mods, they are maintenance items like oil changes but I know what you mean - I've got over 5k of mods in my Valkyrie and it's worth about the same as it would be if I'd left it alone...
Before I bought the VFR late this fall I was going to buy a 2002 Blackbird - it had $3,500 in mods including corbin seat/backrest, Corbin hard bags, aftermarket exhaust and power commander, and helibars. The bike was absolutely like new with only 12k, and he agreed to sell it to me for about $100 over book value - $6,800. I bought a one-way plane ticket and planned to ride it back home 1,000 miles, but the day before the flight the forecast turned iffy and I didnt want to risk getting caught in snow or ice - I live in the Denver area - so I had to call it off.
That would have been one heck of a deal and I was going to pay for shipping but I happened along another incredible deal on the VFR, but it never ceases to amaze what money losers mods become if you decide to sell...

^^^ Your right on the tires, I knew before I started this spending spree that I would lose my ass if I ever decided to sell it, but if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing

A lot of the money spent on the Valk was to stave off the boredom and to try to make it a bike that could really do it all, but after all that I still ended up buying a sportier bike - a 1994 CBR1000F. I thought by spending just $2,500 on a sport-tourer both these bikes would work, but I ended up just wanting something newer and nicer with fuel injection for my sport-tourer. To do it all over again I'd have left the Valk as I bought it 5 years ago and spent that mod money on a second bike - live an learn I guess.

With posts like that, your just making your Ass kicking to Neah Bay so much worse :fencing: I kind of seen it as a MasterCard commercial, renegade spending to get ultimate VFR = PRICELESS :thumb:

I hear ya brother, I came so close to buying a 1098 and having two bikes. But I decided to hold off on the 1098 and fix up the VFR to exactly the way I wanted it, I hope it doesn't turn into a live an learn experience because I'm pretty happy about it at this point... :thumb:

    Chesthing--my favorite bike I've owned was a 93' CBR1000F BLk/Gry, Great ride.

RW-- are you nuts!!! Never walk into a cost of motorcycles/accessories discussion... That's like "what did you guys do on the ski trip" or "how was the bachelor party dear?"

I totally agree that you make the machine yours and if you do it right it will be worth more. I put some work into my FZ1 just like the owner's association guys (like this one) said to and it sold off the site in 1 day. Made me thought I left $ on table:biggrin: That's provided you avoid the gold package...:peace:

I think that the thing to remember about mods is that no bike is perfect and you will probably want to tweek it a bit no matter what bike you have. If you are going to keep it any length of time no big deal. On the other hand if you are making big mods to try and make it something its not then probably not a wise thing to do. I have done a few things to mine and have a few more planned but nothing radical and nothing I can't take of and sell separately if I need to.

I started my front fork replacement tonight, removed my old forks, and waiting for the new parts for the 954 forks to come in to start the install. I have $1500.00 budgeted for the mod, and that's not including the cost of the forks, and the front wheel that I have already spent. Granted, I'm spending most of the $$$ on new parts, VS going the Ebay route. The way I figure it, my VFR is my project car. If I didn't spend my $$$ on my VFR I'd be spending it on something else. My front fork swap is just the beginning of the $$$ I plan on spending on her.

Spending money on bikes beats the hell out of losing it gambling, taking drugs or paying hookers - at least you have something to show, even if it's not worth what you have invested...

I got pretty lucky on the wife department, she never questions my spending sprees, the only time she ever did is when I sunk our life savings into a stock ( PG & E ) and it went down even further for about a week or two before it slowly started to gain. Besides I always have the I sold my Harley for $19,000 and bought the VFR for $4,800 card.

I realized I might be breaking a MANLAW on this thread and my Flame-retardant suit was ready :flame: but I made up for it today on my Superbowl Party  I'm not the biggest drinker in the world but I think I'll have a hangover tomorrow for the first time in quite a while, Damn those Pacifico's :tea:

I've probably spent almost twice what my favorite bike's worth - but then as said, it's now 'pretty perfect' fer me.
89 NT 650 Hawk - wiseco pistons/ megacams , CBR 600 forks, Ohlins, GSXR caliper, 5 gal. Revere tank ( my best mod), two corbins ( worn out!) couple different fairings. Plus regular maint, like new H'bar switches . . .
Was seriously thinking of modding a VFR 750 into ' streetfighter' - looks like too much trouble.
Still, somewhat looking for new - replacement for long vacations ( maybe) - the new Aprilia 750 Shiver looks like right on ' new Hawk'. maybe. OR IF Tri makes 675 sp. Triple.

I bought my '98 a couple years back for $5000 and have easily spent that in mods. I never expected to spend that much but it was one thing lead to another. Still the thing is outstanding - the only other bikes on the market that could "maybe" replace it are the Triumph 675 or the Ducati 1098. Pretty good company. If anybody want a complete list I could email it to you.

I bet more than one of us wouldn't mind a thread about your mods, and what your opinion of them is. for instance, I could read it and say, here's what MD felt about such and such. Do I want to spend the cash for that? It would be pretty interesting.

Plus one for a thread from Mello on his Mods, mechanics has always been my weakness and I have to do major research or call RVFR every time I do a modification...

Ok, thanks gang - A lot can be read about on my delink story here....
    http://vfrworld.com/forums/brake-ti...ad-s-delinking-brake-saga-interceptor-ss.html

Also - I updated my gallery comments on the photos. I guess if there enuff votes I'll start a thread called mello's mods. I'll run though on the mod, the why, the cost, and my thought on the result and the maybe would I do it again or something different.
