Well, the dealer has agreed to trading both my 06 Deluxe and Sprint St1050 on a demo DCT with 450 klms on it. The trade in price isn't great but not bad and I do get some cash back in my pocket.

I have been in the market for a while, riding the Connie 14, BMW K13s, VFR12 and the Ducati Multi12

All great bikes but going for Honda reliability with this purchase

Getting heli bars fitted before I take delivery plus touring optionsn (screen, heated grips, fairing wings power etc) and here in Aus we get the hard cases with the bike so all good to go.

My test ride was on a normal version and I'm taking the DCT without a test ride (just can't get one) but from all the research, reviews etc the DCT will bring a new dimension to my riding (like the 370Z triptronic I own)

Now the decision I have to make is do I ride it back from the dealer or ship it back; he's in Townsville and I'm in Melboune so nearly 4,000 klm trip but what a way to learn a bike) Ride would take about 4 days to get home and adds an element of fun to the purchase.

Anyway, I'll keep you all informed on the final decision

    Cheers
    Poddy

You have two really ggod bikes and the 1200 vfr is not really good at anything. Well, maybe going straight but probably a lot better bikes out there for that. VFRs stopped being great bikes at the 6th gen. Shoot they had a major recall in europe for way too many machining bits left in the engine on the 1200. The dealers dont want them and were strongarmed into buying one for stock. The kawa concourse is a much better bike if that is the type of bike you are looking for. Not to mention the dealer is the only one that is going to come out ahead on the deal. You are better off selling your bikes and dealing cash in hand. I know this is only my 2cents and it was unsolicited.

    Go for it

Do it Podmanm, the Honda has a few little problems but out side of that there an excellent bike. To be fair I rode the DCT and manual back to back and the manual was a far better bike. I have rode a Kawasaki Concourse and they are a better Tourer than the VFR but there not a better sports bike, I come from a world of sports bikes and the VFR is big but the Concourse is even bigger. If the HP reduction in 1st and 2nd and 3500 flat spot was gone this would be one sick bike. I have had mine for 2 months now and love it. Mate 4000km on a bike that only has 400km on it is probably a bit far for the first good run, mine didnt loosen up untill 2000km now she rocks. Mate buy your accesories out of the US they cost half as much. I got the factory hugger and heated grips sent to my door for $527

Congratulations that would be a tough call but hey if you can break it right and have the time why not? But taking your time getting to know the new girl just might be worth it too. I got mine used and had it shipped but it was dead winter too.

Boy I sure wish I would have read one of your post before I bought my 1200vfr! Please take your medication wear your glasses and stay on the 6th Gen forum. My 2cents would be the only mistake Honda made with the 1200vrf was calling it the Honda 1200VFR since it strays from the previous models so much.

Dude! It is an Awful bike. If you like it, it is the bike for you. Sorry to say though every mfg has their blunders (a bike that does nothing well) it just happens to be Honda's turn on tis one. Issue is everyone that payed the rediculous price for it must justify the purchace and defend it. I understand that. It is a lot of money.

Absolute horseshit from a troll who obviously has no basis for comparison and I guarantee has never ridden a VFR1200.

The 800 is a great motorcycle, but not even in the same league. I've owned and put plenty of miles on both. The 1200 will out-accellerate, out-handle and out-brake the 800 while being more comfortable, with better wind protection and maintenance-free shaft drive.

Podman: enjoy your 1200. Mine is the best bike I've owned. My advice would be to ride her home. Great excuse for a 4000k trip.

I'm sure. That is why they are flying off the lots. Oh and the old stock 6th gens are selling and you can barely find a 1200 on the sales floor of any shop. I think the reason they are not on any sales floors is cause they are "so awesome" or not.

Again, I understand. You spent too much money on junk and have to defend it. Makes sense.

Lots of people wanted to be teh cool kid and be the first to own the new bike. Only to find out they bought what is lovingly called SHAMU! that's right a big fat whale.

Yeah, im a troll. Im just a troll that is smart enough not to spend way too much money on a piece of junk. Again and again. It makes sense that people that spent too much money have to defend the decision.

    Podman,
Congrats! I've owned a DCT for about a month now and love that bad S.O.B.! I honestly am not saying that just because I own one, because if I was in any way irritated by the bike, I would just trade it in for something else. Money is not an issue for me and I honestly could have had any bike on the market today so please know that I am giving the bike props with all sincerity. The only downside (very small) was the slight power bog in the first two gears which Z bomb from bazzaz will address in about 14 weeks for $65 US so no big deal...I do most of my riding in 3rd and above anyway and it hauls ass! I have not figured out a way to dyno it due to the speed sensors that feed into the tranny and not getting past first gear if the front tire is not moving.... but I'm sure I'll get around that too. All in all, it was exactly what I was looking for (big, super fast, easy to ride) and thank GOD for getting rid of that damn clutch play! I trigger shift the piss out of it if I feel like shifting but there is nothing like banging it out full throttle in sport mode and watch is blast through the gears while everything around you turns into a blur LOL. Way more fun than any manual bike. You get all the control that you really need with the trigger shifts and can check out from all shifting in a fully auto mode (sport or drive) and just enjoy the scenary if you like...best of all worlds! I love this site because everyone has an opinion (which I respect) so you'll get plenty of those but I would bond with the bike and just ride it home! Enjoy yourself!

I've got nothing to defend. If I didn't like the bike I could very easily get rid of it and get something else. I'm not stuck with it for life.

Sounds to me like someone is pissed that they can't afford one. Don't worry... in 3 years when you make the last payment on your 2006 you can trade it in and park your very own 1200 in front of your trailer.

I own my 06 outright and I will never buy this version of the 1200 from Honda. There are way too many better bikes for the money.

The local shops hate having to purchase these things. They cant say anything good about the bike. Once the initial stocking model is gone they do not plan on bringing in anymore.

    Hey nik08,

I share the exact same sentiments as you about the DCT ( except I can't afford any bike I want, even so, I would still own my DCT).

I just love this bike, and I feel I have the best of both worlds. This bike rocks and I will not be trading it anytime soon nor will I let anyone else opinion affect my riding enjoyment.

Say what you may, good or bad, that's OK by me.

    Thanks,
