    I MADE IT HOME!!!!!
It only took me 27 more hours than I had planned.
Monday AM I packed up and Reg and I headed out and he rode with me for several twisty miles to McKittrick. We said good bye and he turned back. I continued east on 58. When I got maybe 20 more miles to the little town of Buttonwillow, my FI light came on solid and the engine stalled. I still had electricity, and the wheels still turned.
I pulled over to the side of the highway and started to check the obvious. Wires, connections, fuses, etc.
The first thing I found wrong was that I forgot to put the alan wrench that fit my fairing screws in my bag. The second thing I found wrong was that the extra R/R that reg gave me was NOT plug-n-play(and I was not prepared to do wiring work on the side of the highway).
This leads me to the third thing I found wrong: AAA. I have AAA. Have had it since 1985. They told me my bike was not covered. I asked what that meant in dollars. They said they could just call me a tow truck and I could pay the rate, which would come to about $300 from where I was to Bakersfield. Or I could upgrade my account and get the bike covered, that would only be $114. OK.
Not OK. It takes 4 days for it to go into effect. FOUR DAYS. I am stuck on the side of the road TODAY!!!! So, after an hour or so more of talking to everyone at AAA in 2 states, they finally agree that since I have been a member for 25 years they will cover me today. Another hour later, I am in a tow truck to Bakersfield.

    More later.

Also, you learned a few things about AAA. I'm calling my insurance today to see if my bike has the "full replacement cost of a tow". I'm also going to find #'s of a tow service from every town I drive through from here on in. This is a huge wake-up call.

Well he thought he'd just get towed to bake-o and then fix it and get on the road. I was in California valley when he broke down so I didn't get the message until he was being towed. Then on the next day after he thought he was gonna have to stay again I was at work until 730 pm. I had arranged for terri to go get him once he gave me the go ahead but he got it fixed and headed out.

People tease me but; in these bags are an air compressor, full wrench set plus misc wrenches, volt meter, tire plug kit, first aid kit, rain suit, and different degrees of warm and warmer clothing. Then there's the duffel bag with my clothes for the week.

Texts after ten are a definite party foul

When I went through the indian reservation in the southwest of SD, I was praying my shit didn't break down. Those folks didn't look like they got a lot of travelers through there. I wonder if there would have been an AAA certified company that would have come for my ass.

You ready to trade yet Drewl? However, I'm keeping my bags.

Thanks for the sanity check Drewl. Just called State Farm. They DO NOT OFFER a towing package for 'recreational vehicles'. Checking the threads right now for insurances that do. Any suggestions while I'm looking would be helpful.

    I'm switching.

Isn't that the same thing? You pay a fee and they bet you won't break down. You bet you will break down and need their "assistance".

    Sounds like insurance to me.

Good call Tink. Math here is "Add $135 first year, $120 every year there after for motorcycle assistance for AAA + the cost of insurance"

Compared to "Getting better coverage than my current insurance and roadside for $29 + cost of new insurance". Hmmmm. Let me think.

So I get to Bakersfield finally at about 2:30 Monday afternoon. All along the ride there I was texting with Reg and Long and they were sending out the word. I told them not to worry about coming to my rescue, I was being towed, afterall.
Then, I get to the shop. CLOSED MONDAYS. SHIIIIIITE.
I sat in the truck and called around Bakersfield. They were all either closed, or didn't work on Hondas, or could not look at it till next week. I looked around the shop I was at and there was no secure lot to drop the bike in. It is right next door to the bus station. I am not sure if any of you have ever noticed, but the bus station is not anywhere you wanna leave anything valuable. Ever. In any town. So the tow truck driver says he'll drop me off at a hotel and I can just get towed back to the shop in the morning.
    Cool. Works like a charm.
Until I call for another tow on Tuesday morning.

Triple A is about as useful as the BBB.

Call Ball insurance in Spring, TX or join the Honda Riders Club for peanuts, an especially a good deal if you go to Laguna Seca for the races.
