I know Motorcyclist has some info on a new V4 Honda hitting the race tracks and , for a hefty premium to us mere mortals. Here's the link to the latest gossip

Faster and Faster: Wayne Gardner: ‘Expect a V4 Fireblade very soon!’

Reliable inof? Who knows but it's nice to know other people are excited about it just as much as we are.

Maybe I'm reading into it a little more than I should be but the way I read it it seems like the 1000RR is gonna be replaced by a V4. Pretty exciting.

Here we go again, if there is any truth to this then wouldn't the Honda marketing department released something by now? It would not shock me if 2011 was the last VFR ever made. Its a shame to even call it a VFR, is should be call the 1200 VF because I see no "R" in that bike. Will Honda ever give us the "R" back? I doubt it but I hope I am wrong......At least there is always the Aprilia.

I have the same feeling. I't been beat to death on here and all over the web. I wanna have hope but wish in one hand and sh*t in the other and see what fills up first.

I'm old enough to remember the first v4's (Heck I even remember the Ford Corsair V4:frown:) in '82 and much was touted about the layout. The reality is that over the years the V4 never could achieve enough of a performance advantage to outweigh it's cost and packaging dis-advantages. Fuel injection eliminates the intake problems but that is about it.
There is a reason that 99% of performance bike motors are inline 4's and that goes for cars too.

for Honda to get more bikes into Moto GP in 2012, up will see a limited number of V-4 RVF in 2012.
They will be in the WSBK line up as well as Moto GP, with direct injection

I think you are incorrect. There is a specific rule in MotoGP that all bikes that race in the MotoGP level can not be production bikes. Now WSBK I am not sure about but they look like normal production bikes with expensive parts bolted to them.

The latest VFR1200 should have been called a VF without the R. Anyway, I know the speculation has been on the web for years now but it's nice think there's a chance. Will I own one if it's ever built? Maybe 20 years from now when I can afford it.

The rule in MotoGP has always been that these engines and frames are considered prototypes and can not be produced until the engine class has been changed. Even what is produced is some watered down version anyway. Even the Ducati Desmo which can be had for about $80,000 is no where close to the MotoGP version. I bet a GP bike when all is said and done costs well over $200,000 if not more.

With the advent of CRT teams in MotoGP and the change in formula from 2012 on, it is not beyond the realm of reality that this could happen. As for the V4 not being viable due to cost, just look at the RSV4.
