simple logic.... 17 or so days left till R3.... reg is probably working most of those days...same with SLOVFR..... the engine that is in the bike works... swapping a head from unknown engine is logical..what is so hard about that line of thinking....oh yeah...Its not what you would do so there for it is wrong...

I didn't see in his post where he said what he did or did not know about this engine. Besides, you put a compression tester in the hole and crank it over with the starter. When they all check good, you're golden. It is a VFR after all isn't it? A guy can drop a motor out and back in within a day and not have to buy any gasket kits. He also said in a previous post that his piston was questionable

But I didn't realize you were eyes on the ground in Reg's garage and so intimate with the situation or that he was unable to speak for himself. Sounds like you have all the advice he needs.

he said it looked nasty...... not questionable... and since he didn't say broke, blown or any type of damage... one would assume that he meant that it was nasty looking, as in covered in carbon...... and as far as advice that I give him or you give him for that matter is just that ..... advice... he doesn't have to do anything anyone tells him to do...

I was gonna just swap the motor since it was virtually new, but after consulting with ToeCutter on that very thing he said, you'd be better off to just swap the head for now and that changing an engine on a 5th or 6th gen was a pretty involved job and my time was running out.

besides my goal with scratch was just to get 100000 miles then maybe I'll get something else like a BMW that's more dependable. ;)

It took everything I had:flex: but, I pulled the clutch all the way today!. Now I'm gonna work harder than ever to see if I can ride to the bbq...
btw: If Crusty, BB, and Tink all show up, I'll pay for their gas just to see a good :boxing: match. I'll even bring the gloves unless they want to bare knuckle it or wrap their hands dipped in broken glass...

well, I'm considering still. I want the whole engine and the shipping delay on the head gasket may make that option one again. SLOVFR thinks we should be able to handle the swap and it may be the only option to ride Scratch for R3.

It's only nuts and bolts - not rocket science. I have no doubt you two can get it done.

Just pace yourself on the beers.
