Seriously considering an '86 VFR700, see pics. What's it worth?

    How does it run?

    Can you ride it?

Seller says it has been the most dependable bike he ever owned, says it always starts and runs great with no problems. I can't ride it, it's about 500 miles from where I live. I'd have to make the deal and have it shipped, or take one of my Sprinter vans up to haul it home.

I probably should look for one closer to home where I can inspect it personally...

The asking price seems reasonable for the mileage and condition. Does the bike come with any extra parts? I would offer him $1700 and see where it goes from there. I would however be apprehensive about buying a bike that I couldn't ride first.

I would have to drive it before I bought it.
Otherwise it is a parts bike.

2 grand for a rashed up bike that is 25 years old? nope....maybe 1500 if it is mechanically sound... but its been down....that means fairing stay is possibly bent (or been straightened) and some hidden things...

dookie..I wouldn't go as far as a parts bike, if it is totally rideable then I would go for it but the cost of fairings alone are above five hundred to replace all the plastics...

I would have to see it first hand too. I'd pay 2K if the damage was VERY minor and it ran great and didn't have a million other little things wrong.
I just saw a nice 86 sell on ebay for 4500 (it was quite exceptional though).

I know of three that are for sale, one on this site, that are $4500-$5000. Just stupid pipe dream to think you can get that. I think I would be lucky to get $2000 for mine, it is an old bike , just a fact. I say $1200 for damaged in fair shape, $2000 for a peach and $2500 for showroom condition. Project gen 2, $200-$500.

I can't see the photos, and don't know if that shows where the bike is located. Where's it at? maybe someone could go and look at it in person for you? I'd volunteer if it was close by.

I'm just saying until I see it start and run and then I get to ride it.

I picked up mine, running well with several small cosmetic flaws for only $900
