IMO, most folks would rather be Rossi than norkleboy.

You've completely missed the point, Ryder. As an analogy, basketball works just as well as thoroughbred racing; where all of the jockeys are of a certain stature and there is no ball. In any sport there is an ideal physique, and a person either has it, or they don't. Point being, the athlete yeilds to the sport, not the other way around. In other words, my size will forever preclude me from playing football - unless you truly believe that the rest of the field should be penalized in order to accomodate those lacking the proper build. The same goes for motorcycle racing. However, I suspect that this is not what you actually believe. No, I think that what we're really talking about is more wool over the eyes Rossi idolizing.

I believe I hit the point rather precisely, and I think the data speaks for itself - there is no 'ideal stature'. Talent wins.

^^^ No doubt, talent does win. If we agree that that's the case, then we agree that Rossi's claims of unfair advantages based on stature are bat shit. Exactly what I was getting at at from the beginning.

Fair enough; but Rossi is only doing what he believes will put him back on the podium, bat shit or otherwise. I don't think he *needs* an advantage, just more time on the Ducati.

I don't worship the guy; but he is damn good, and anyone who discounts his ability hasn't been paying attention.

I tend to agree. A bunch of NBA dudes trying to pass as midget wrestlers would be instantly spotted by the experts here.

Oh by the way boys, this IS NOT NEW, not in bikes, or cars for that matter; a couple years ago all the "big boys" of Indy Car were complaining that Danica (and other girls) had an advantage cause they averaged 100 lbs, and the "big boys" averaged around 180. I don't pay that much attention to Indy Car, so i don't know if they every changed the rules to include driver weight, but my point is that this concept AIN'T NEW.

BUT, if you're right, and there is a "body type" or ideal physique for motorcycle racing, and weight/size plays a part, the trend of "mini-riders", like Dani and Max and others, will continue. And, even if we all agree talent is still the deciding factor, eventually the teams and people planning to be riders, will come to accept the "size limit" like they do in horse racing (the most apt analogy). Today, no one over 5'6" tall and over 90 lbs would even think of trying to be a jockey; and even if they had talent, no owner would care enough to check them out; it's become a defacto size limit.

AND that sucks, because I hate the fact that only tiny people could be motorcycle racers some day...

Per Wikipedia: "Jockeys must have a light body weight in order to ride at the weights which are assigned to their mounts. There is no limit on how tall a jockey can be, though most are under five feet, six inches tall. There are horse carrying weight limits, which set by the racing authorities. The Kentucky Derby, for example, has a weight limit of 126 pounds including the jockey and his or her equipment. Successful jockeys must also be very strong and athletic to control a horse that is moving at 40 mph and weighs 1,200 pounds."

If anyone, even NorcalBoy, couldn't admit that Rossi has been the best of the best over the last decade, and the best of the modern era, that what he did when he left Honda, proving them a bunch of morons (it ain't the rider, its the bike; really?) and taking a bike that hadn't won a race in 9 fricken seasons and winning his first race on it, then the rest of their opinions are forfeit by the fact that they obviously can't deal with reality.

Now, that's not to say that I disagree with NorcalBoy, in that Rossi has appeared to be in decline the last two years, and perhaps starting even before that. Yes he broke his leg last year, and yes the Duc is a beast, but given what he's done in the past, he obviously has lost a step, or he'd be able to handle these issues as well as he did taking that crappy Yamaha and turning it into a constantly, championship winning machine.

I agree, he's whining; and it's bordering on tarnishing his shine. Unless, he starts winning of course.

Anybody planning on going to MotoGP at Laguna Seca and camping? I'm considering doing this and camping at Foxhill. It's for motorcycles only and on a hill by turn 4. You can have up to two motorcycles per camp site, so if anyone's interested in sharing a site, let me know, would be more economical to share...

Wow, CRAZY WSS race! Good on Chaz, I'm very happy for him. Tightens up the championship too, only 5 points separates top 3 riders...

Absolutely, what a great race........so good to see Chaz get his first win...good on him...

Yikes. Sam Lowes and his get off, and Scassa asspacking while near the front. I really enjoyed watching Sam run up front.

Cant believe we havent seen more comment here on a truly eventful race.

Maybe some are looking for more objective reportage or thinking maybe that Chaz is better suited as a harleydood/doodette.

I'm looking forward to the MotoGP season getting back into action this weekend. I really want to see that Dani is healthy again and that Honda bounces back from the bullshit that was Jerez. It was just heating up when they started the long break.....only a couple more months until Laguna, would really like to see the intensity at a high for that race.

Racing is fun. Bench racing is fun. By the numbers as a guage is about par with using an astrologer. My suggestion is maybe to explain "asspacking" lest some of the contributors think it some funny business that probably is the last thing the fast guys are thinking about.

Duo, quattor, sex, octo__ cui multum truibuimus?
