I live in Portland Oregon and I'd like to take off 7 days for a road trip. Does anyone have any good suggestions? To many choices to many routes, to little time.

If you're ready to leave now, head south to the warmer weather. If you can wait, head east to Glacier National Park, south to Yellowstone, then head for home and stay off the freeways.

Thanks! I do some research on that ride. See what the end destination is like or pay off. Like to at least pull 2 12 hour days of riding.

Hi Jason and welcome!! Good to see you here!! :)

I was gonna say the same thing. If you wanna go now, I'd definitely head down to SoCal for the sweet roads down there. C'mon out and visit Vegas too if you want. Once you're in SoCal, Vegas is only about 4-6 hours away, depending on where you start from. Death Valley is a good trip this time of year, as well as Valley of Fire. You're welcome to stay in my guest room!

However, if you can wait for warmer weather, I'd suggest heading east... Wyoming and Dakotas... Yellowstone, Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Grand Tetons....

Of course Canada has some really beautiful riding... I've never ridden there, but I've known some people who have and they say it's really great scenery and nice riding....

I'll have to start planing a route and doing my research. I'll definitely take a look at your suggestions VFRChick. To many motorcycle related trips and track days this summer. Vegas has always sounded like a fun trip. Not sure when I'll make the trek and i guess it depends on work.

Devils Tower...? Is that the mountain in Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

Side Note: Had a great ride today and the VFR is running great!

    Hey,

If you make it past VFRChick and down into Az, there is the Alpine south on 191 into Safford. The real problem (as I see it) is getting there and back. Its out in the middle of BFE. I used to live in Astoria and also did some time living in Portland, Corvallis, etc... South = warm = better. SoCal has some great roads. Why don't you look into your 7 day thing and make R3.

Kind of depends when you are leaving unless you like rain riding. Bend area is supposed get some snow today and it's damn sure raining on the coast.

Wait until mid-May and come down to CO. In the mountains, a person could do a 12hr day in nothing but kick your ass style twisties; great scenery too. Tink will generally take in strangers, as long as said stranger is providing unlimited cheap beer. Although something tells me that come mid-May, the Tink household will be a busy one.

To many rides to many choices and this all great input. Wish I had 3 months off for a 15,000 mile trip around the US and Canada. A big factor in my ride is going somewhere I have never been.

Love the local rides in Oregon and I used to live in Bend and there are some great rides up there.

Give serious thought the the R3 trip. They are a great bunch and this is I think the 5th or 6th BBQ and ride. I have been to two and wished like hell I was going to be there this year as well but that just isn't going to happen. But come hell or high water, I will be there next year. If Reg doesn't host it next year, I will....at his place.

If you decide to make it up to the Wet Coast of Canada, drop me a line. There are a few here who like to go out for the odd Saturday or Sunday ride. Portland to Chilliwack BC is a bit of a haul, but depending on your stamina and comfort level, that could be done in a day.

I could ride all day especially on a VFR. I'll have to look into getting a passport as I wanted to check out Canada.

    Nice VFR!
