    I bought a 1986 vfr750 about a year ago, the other day drove it home then the engine cut out. Ever since ive gotten no power with key turned on. The manual trouble shooting suggested possibly the battery, main fuse or ingnition switch. Ive checked the battery the main fuse. I havn't check the ignition switch yet but it's a new ignition switch that was put in about a month ago. Am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what it might be or where else to look. Would greatly appreciate any help.

    I assume you've checked for loose connections to the battery as well as your ground points? How exactly did you check the main fuse? Did you use a voltometer/ohm meter or did you just visually inspect it?

    @Rollin
    i) I've checked for loose connections to the battery
    ii) I checked the fuse with a multimeter,
    iii) when you said did i check the ground points, if you mean did i check the batteries ground against an external ground point, i did that as well.

    When you say there is no power does this mean that none of the lights come on when the key is turned or do the lights turn on but the starter won't turn over?

    Did you check the connector at the start relay? They tend to be in poor condition and can cause this.

    I checked the connector to the relay switch it was fine.
    With the connector disconnected and the main fuse pulled out, i figured there should be a voltage across the main fuse connection, with key turned and start switch pressed as well got no voltage.
    Am going now to go figure out how the starter relay switch works and how to test it.

    The red wire from the starter relay is battery supply directly to the ignition switch. Do you have system voltage on the red wire at the switch?

    I tested the starter relay it was fine, then went and had a look at the ignition switch. there is a connection about 15cm down from the ignition switch, that connection had come loose. Connecting that properly fixed the problem. problem solved thanks to every one for your input.
