Hello, just traded my 2009 kaw er6n in on a brand new 2008 VFR800, WOW what a difference. Now I want to spend about 3500 more on exhaust, seat, risers, windshield etc...
But first things first, I'm coming up on 600mi and I'm going to change the oil and filter. I was wondering what equivalant or better of oil/filter I could use. Thank you for any info, great site.

Search oil and oil filter in the sites search function. This subject has been discussed to no end. Plenty of options.

Here, read this. Motorcycle Oil Filter Cross Reference

Most oils are good but stay away from "energy conserving" in the lower part of the API seal on the rear of the container

Guys here use everything. Top choices are.
Mobil one synthetic motorcycle oil, Shell Rotella T6 synthetic, motul and or Honda synthetic blend.

If I had to offer an opinion and you are asking for one, It would be to run OEM filter or the standard purolator filter the L series not PL. The PL is great filtration but IMHO is too restrictive. And Mobil one synthetic 4T motorcycle oil or the new Castrol power sport motorcycle oil. Both availale at Advanced Auto. Actually all, but the OEM filter is available at advanced auto. I have used the Rotella T6 synthetic and the Castrol but I like the Mobile one best.

Best results for my bike are purolator L14612 and Mobil one. Second best is purolator L14612 and Castrol Rs racing 4T.
    Both are full synthetic oils.

Please explain how you think the pl series is too restrictive. Very interesting.

I said "in my humble opinion" I was not trying to ruffle feathers.

While the filte media is superior it could be too good for our engines.
The PureONE consistently performs at the top when it comes to filtering capability. The paper/fiber element has more filtering material and surface area than other filters and internal construction is very good. There are some concerns about oil restriction because the filter element is so dense, and if you have a high performance engine you may be better off with the more expensive Mobil 1 oil filters. However, the PureONE’s excellent filtering capability, high quality construction, and affordable price make it a top overall pick.

Purolator also posts a disclaimer about the restrictivness of the PL filters on bikes.

Do not however buy the motorcycle specific ML series from Purolator. It is not made by them and is junk in comparison.

    Feathers unruffled sir!
That is also one of my concerns of useing ultra high efficiency filters. I thought you may have done some pressure drop testing or something.

I edited my post above. No pressure testing. But the bike was acting oil starved when cold start. Once warm everything was good. Changed filter and issue went away. Extent of my testing.

Whatever oil you choose, make sure that it's of the NO moly type. You don't need that garbage giving your clutch a hard time.
