Hi guys! I rode my 1998 VFR last year almost when it started to snow and after going to work what seemed to be 25 degrees ,everything was fine but 6hrs later my battery was totally dead.Battery is almost 2yr old but charging well.
I jumped started and rode home but noticed lack of power. Not major way but still noticeable.
I tried starting next day again very low battery. Here is my thinking.I am not a mechanic so please don't lough.
1.Busted Charging system. Stator (hope not God)
    2.The dreaded regulator.

How can I check if the regulator is working property? Or any insight would help.Thank you very much guys.

At idle I get 13 V full throttle 3.2 no more. Should it be 14-15? Do I have dead RR?

Could be the R/R, but sounds very similar to my own failed stator. Although, once the stator went, it happened quickly; went from having to hold the rpm's up to keep it running, to 100% dead in a span of 50 miles.

I was having a similiar issue with mine when i first got it replaced the battary and the rectifier and it still didin't fix it. My local bike shop had the bike for about a week and they finnally found the culprit. A coroded conection in the charging system cleanned it out and it has worked out fine been almost a year now.

Guys thanks for the input.Just so I don't buy parts thinking it might be faulty I like to narrow down to specific part.
Battery does not charge at all when starting the engine. Its at 12.5 V where its should be 14-15 V. Now battery is 2yr old so it could be the battery.
Manual says check for continuity or no continuity. I am confused. Does continuity mean Voltage should be same as the battery or close to it? No continuity none?

Before you go chasing your tail I would would eliminate anything "untraceable" first by checking & cleaning all the connections in the system with electronic cleaner (Isopropyl Alcohol) looking for anything broken, loose or corroded. Then reconnect them with bit of dielectic grease. You should also take the battery out check it for cracks and make sure its not dry and/or have it tested by a trusted auto parts store or repair shop (I've never had to pay for simple battery test anywhere). Then run your tests again referencing the troubleshooting flow chart in the Honda manual and it should point you straight to the problem. My experience has been 75% of the time the culprit is the battery or something simple like a fried or corroded connection or a loose or broken wire. It's unlikely the cold had anything to do with your problem unless you were riding on salted roads. Good luck!

Thank you I will do that. By system you are referring charging system only correct?
I suspect it could be connection issue because my R/R got warm when I started the bike.I am thinking if its totally toast it should not even get hot or at least that's what I assume.
    I hate being electrically challenged

I meant the charging system, personally I would go ahead and give the whole electrical system an inspection/cleaning, who knows what could be next... Preventative maintenance.
