    Hi every one ! ive just bought a 2000 honda vfr 800 and i am ecstatic to ride it.:party2:
    It has almost 32000 miles for 3800 from a dealer . It is mechanically stock but does have carbon pegs , and levers. any way what should i keep a eye out for besides the R/R ( its been replaced) and any tips how to to get the most out of it ? oh and i live in Wisconsin and its almost 50 here now ... I CANT WAIT!

    Hopefully the rectifier on it is the ricks motorsport one, not the honda one, because it will fail again if it is. See if the dealer knows anything about it. If its the honda one, go to wiremybike.com and get the ricks motorsport R/R and the VFRness main harness upgrade. I thought the R/R on my 99 was fixed and all good. Then it left me stranded 220 miles from home. After soldering the burned R/R connectors, a couple weeks later the main fuse blew. I dropped the little bit of cash for the stuff mentioned above from wiremybike.com, found an old computer fan(about a 3 incher) and strapped that to the R/R spliced into the license plate light for power. I then put 2000 miles on the bike in two months with no problems at all. I highly recommend the little cooling fan setup as it dropped the R/R temp from 150 deg. Fahrenheit to around 100 deg. Fahrenheit when read with an infrared thermometer after letting the bike idle with the high beams on for 5 to 10 minutes. Make sure the thermostat is working (they tend to stick open) the bike should reach around 160 degrees before coolant begins to flow through the upper radiator hose into the top of the right side radiator. If the bike is running cool (130-140 ish) in cooler weather and the top of the right radiator feels warm when the temp gauge is reading only 110-120 then you will need to change the thermostat. I just changed the thermostat in mine this week preparing for the season. If you intend to do your own work; which is very gratifying, I recommend it, get yourself a shop manual. My bike came with a Clymer manual from the previous owner, and it is very detailed and gives very good pictures and notes. Hopefully I didn't confuse you with all of my babbling, good luck with the new ride and enjoy it.

    I have the dunlop roadsmarts on mine. I like em alot, but because they are dunlops and are known for cupping, watch the tire pressure like a hawk. I usually check mine once a week.

    I think the tire wax question is what may be on your tires as a result of sitting on the showroom, dealer bike you say. I purchased a new bike once, brought it home and rubbed washer fluid and a rag on the tries, came out black, tired felt way stickier. Watch the youtube video on "brand new Gixxer Crashed, kinda funny, but man that poor fella, have to feel for him. Would hate to see your second post about how you dumped a classic y2k vfr on the road in front of your house. safe travels
