Well everyone, I had this bike for almost a year. I have to say that as my first motorcycle, it will always have a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, I am still in college and recently lost my job, so the VF has to go :(
I put the bike up on eBay classifieds, and only got a bunch of goons messaging me asking "if it had vtec" and "i'll give you 1000 cash it's for my girlfriend"
So I will be posting it up here, hopefully with better luck.

    Here's the deets.
    Honda : Interceptor - eBay (item 140517435424 end time Mar-05-11 11:34:56 PST)

I asked $2,000 so I can hopefully finish the last stage of my flight training in college.
Any questions can be posted here, PM'd or asked through eBay. Thanks fellas.

A few mods have been made to this bike.

The seat, signals and chin cowl are not original. This unfortunately affects the value.

The '86 model is very collectable but given the milage, level of finish (i.e. the mufflers have been repainted) and non-stock items you may need to reconsider the asking price.

I hope the sale goes well but with anything vintage there are specific things that collectors are looking for. Also for reference, mint low milage examples of this bike go for $2,500.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I'm with IC. The average 500 sells for $800-$1200 with museum quality original machines bringing $2000-$2500. Yours does look a little cleaner than most and some people will like the extras. I'd be surprised if an informed buyer would offer more than $1500. Sorry to hear about the job. Good luck getting your money for school.

    thanks for the input guys.
I didn't have a very good background when I bought this bike, and the previous owner did not know a whole lot about it either.
I did realize that the turn signals were aftermarket, after going to the Honda dealer to buy a bulb, only to realize that it was much too big.
I guess the chin cowl had blue lettering?
and as far as the seat goes, does it look like a seat from an earlier model interceptor? PO said that the old seat had many holes in it, so he replaced it with this.

Yes, blue lettering. I am not sure but the '86 cowl may also have a slightly different design as the '86 oil pan has a different location for the oil drain bolt.

Yes, this is most likely from an '84/'85 VF500F though it could be a recovered '86 seat.

thanks IC, you're up early! EDIT: maybe not, my settings are in the pacific time zone for some reason) hopefully the bike will be sold today. I changed the plugs last night and now the bike smokes a little. (im assuming thats oil that fell into the combustion chamber when i swapped plugs) the idle also seemed a little fast, anyone have any insight into this?

Oh the memories... I had an '86 from new that I sold a couple years ago for $3k, it was a beauty. The General demanded it because of the other five bikes in the garage. I've regretted it ever since...
