So, two weeks and a couple days since I started this. March 1st, beginning of a new month. I've got 23,608 miles on the bike, which isn't too bad, considering the two weekends since I started, we've had crappy weather and I haven't ridden. That mileage is only weekday riding. So if I did 608 miles in two weeks without any weekend trips, I DO believe my goal is very realistic and I most likely will surpass it.

This weekend, weather permitting, I will be taking a ride down to Joshua Tree National Park with some riding buddies.

On March 19th I will be doing an Iron Butt ride with a club here, the Vegas Knights, so that will give me 1000 miles in less than 24 hours. Our route will take us down 15 to SoCal, up the coast a little bit to Cambria I think, then back home. If anybody lives along that route, PM me, and I can tell you where our stops are. It would be really cool to have some peeps meet us at our stops for moral support. We can even take pics together and post them on this great site I know that's all about VFRs!! LOL!

IMO, that is exactly what Crusty needs. No need for pix.

I'll be at work on the 19th so hopefully I won't be seeing any of your group since I'll be working in the ICU. Have fun.

    Iron Butt

Well, I have my first Iron Butt under my belt. It was very windy here yesterday and they were calling for rain both here and out in CA... Tori told me it was already raining there Friday night... so we opted to head east. We went to a little trailer park/ghost town a little south of Tucson called Bowie, AZ. We left Henderson, NV at 6am and I had an odometer reading of 24,555. I returned home to Las Vegas at approximately 12:30am this morning with an odometer reading of 25,583. We kept a good pace around 85/90MPH most of the time with some faster spurts periodically. This speed allowed us to take longer breaks to rest, eat, pee, blab... I lubed my chain before I left, then on the way back, just north of Bowie, then when I got home. I was the only rider that could lube my chain by myself thanks to that handy-dandy center stand. Remember when I first got the bike and I posted about my inability to get it on the center stand? LOL! No problem now!

I am just a little bit sore today, but not my butt. My butt is fine thanks to Mr. Sargent. Really just my neck is a little tight and my right hand is sore. It was definitely getting a little "crampy" those last few hours. However, no tingling or other pain, thanks to those Vibranators!

I have some errands to run today and as most of you know, I ride every day for everything. I am taking the truck today.... but I'll be back on the bike for work tomorrow!!

Good on you Karen. Now it is my turn but that will have to wait until SLO 2012. Will do the border to border in 24 on my way down. This was Reggie's Idea. I think he is a sadistic son of a bitch. Are you registering with the Iron Butt Site for this?

You get this as a reward:

Oh, BP... if you coulda seen this town... I think they were lucky to even have streets there. It was a silly turn-off from the highway, and if you blinked you missed the town. It was all trailers and all the buildings were run down. I'm not even sure anyone lived there, nobody was around. They didn't even have a gas station or a mini-mart!! But hey! It was a little over 500 miles from Vegas and it fulfilled our requirements!!

So now it's the weekend of 3/26-27 and I'm up to 26053 miles. Took a ride through Death Valley Saturday with some friends. And, I met some of Reggie's friends!! At "Badwater" I hear someone say, "Hey, do you know Reggie?" Of course there's only one Reggie, so without a thought I turn around in the direction of the voice and yelled back "YES!! I know Reggie [lastname]!!!" And... I actually recognized the guy... it was William from SLOIII, two years ago!! He was there on his BMW with friends Mark, Wendy and Marina. I had to cut it short 'cause my group was leaving, but we met up again at Dante's View. They took some pics, but I did not... hopefully they will send me theirs so I can post up here. I WILL however, post the pics I took at my stops!! It was in the 50s when I left my house. We hit 34 degrees going over the "Hump to Pahrump" as we fondly call that summit. In Death Valley it ranged from 70 degrees in the valley, to 40s up at Dante's View... just in a 30-40 minute ride... Our first stop was Shoshone, CA and I spotted a sweet 1969 Chrysler Imperial. 70K original miles, 2nd owner, all original except paint. Interior was beautiful.

Next, we stopped to view the flowers in bloom in the desert... normally all you see is dirt... this time of year, it's all yellow with the flowers.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

We continued on to Badwater, which is 282 feet BELOW sea level.

Then we went to Furnace Creek where they get to ass-rape you for gas since there is no gas for miles and miles.

Last stop was Dante's View, where we overlooked Badwater where we had stopped earlier... from 282ft below sea level to probably 3000ft above sea level, within an hour. What's that white stuff you ask? It's not snow, it's salt.

Next road trip will be Malibu Hills/Topanga Canyon. Not sure when yet. I can go next weekend with Marrib, and perhaps some other VFRW inhabitants, or the following week with a group from here. Leaning more towards the following week... I have lots to catch up on next weekend... stay tuned!!

You're funny, Mr. Randy. Actually, there IS a beautiful Alpine forest about 20 minutes outside Las Vegas. It's about 20-30 degrees cooler than the valley year-round, they get snow up there, and there is actually a ski resort!! You can do ANYTHING in or near Vegas!! :)

I am still working on the wife for a trip to Vegas. But it is an up hill battle. She seems to have little interst. Neither of us gamble but she seems to fail to recognize there is lots of entertainment there too. Tell me they have a Walmart there and I may convince her.

Randy, I went to Vegas a couple of months back, and there is a lot to do other than gamble. Where else can you eat at a New York Pizza place, then walk down to the Eiffel Tower, then keep walking and see pirates, all in one day, and within miles of each other. Blue Man Group, the different Cirque de Sole (sp?) shows. But bring $$ for them shows, they are not cheap by any means. And just ignore the pron dealers.

Chick, keep up the riding, sounds like you are going to hit that valve check soon!

    Keager,

They may have all that stuff, but they don't have the original Kellekis's showstring french fries from Redwood and Main St Winnipeg.

And BB, you are right. But it is now 03:46 and I just got home from work. Wife is sound asleep and if I want to celebrate our 25th with her this summer, she should probably remain that way.
