Way to go Jdubb. Not only do I have a VFR at 65 but I also snowboard. One of these days I'll ride through So. MD on my way to DC just to see who this wise youngster is.

I am 55 and have had my VFR for 9 years, No thought of giving it up.
It probably now sees more RPM past 10,000 than it ever did when I first got it

Well I'm 60 yo, and just bought the VFR about 3 weeks ago. So far I don't think I'm too old for this bike. I'm already planning my first 500 mile ride (in a single day), so I guess I'm hoping I'm not too old yet. I must say though - it's amazing how many guys that are younger than I am ask "How do you ride all bent over like that?". Dunno the answer to that one. But - it's a blast when you hit those curves. I'll just be glad when I get used to the handling as it's somewhat different than my previous ride (650R Ninja).

Well I will be 63 this year and I still love to ride bent over and the curves. Can't wait for spring too much snow and ice now. Also ride a goldwing so I guess I have the best of both worlds. Tony

I will be 57 next march. What does it mean ? Nothing. Till i will be able to seat on my VFR I will feel alive.
The important is to have some sincere good friends.....and a wife that never says "you too old to drive a motorcycle".
    Ciao and lamps to everybody.

A specific type of motorcycle, typically distinguished by it's aerodynamic 'hunched-over' seating position and high power to weight ratio.

I'm 59 and will be 60 at the end of March. I bought my silver '03 as a birthday present to myself. I bought it in February and have barely had a chance to ride it yet. 10 times a day I go to the weather website for an update. Fuckin' winter...

Hats off at 14 bikes I though I had owned alot bikes. At 39 I'm done with the fast uncomfortable bikes. I have been riding since I was 10 years old on a z50. I too am not in the goldwing catagory of owners. Yes age is a state of mind I have 2 sleeves of tattoos and still crank up my stereo. I am divorced, lifes too short to be unhappy. You should get your wife a nice item like you got your bike, or send her out with the girlfriends to the strippers.

I don't want to tell anyone how to live their life, I don't conform to societies norms and enjoy everyday of life it's short.

Every time I see another response from a late 50's, early 's 60's, member confirms that I made the right choice trading in my huge cruiser for a VFR 800. I absolutely love the responsiveness, handling, and overall smoothness, not to mention the relative light weight compared to my VTX 1800. I only wish I had done it earlier. BTW I'm 64.

Ok, I am now 46. Got married to a gal that was my age back in October. She loves riding. She and I rode to the chapel, got married and rode out to Deals Gap. We went over 1,000 miles in 4 days and loved it. Some of it was at very excessive speeds.

We took our MSF class this past summer together. We have yet to get her a bike. My job loss slowed that down a bit. I am now self employed and see her getting a bike before the end of season this year, if not winter is a great time to buy a used bike!

I ride track days and she is now riding on the back for one of those sessions each time we go. She loves it! Top speed riding 2up to date is 150mph on the CBR954RR.

    To old to ride

Kind of funny last Thursday my friend Bullet and I started our twice a month 400 mile ride from Odessa, Tx to Balmorhea, Ft. Davis, Marfa, Alpine, Marathon, Ft. Stockton and back to Odessa. While in Marfa we decided to get a burger at Mondos. Three other motorcyles were parked in the parking lot. After eating we walked outside and one of the riders was looking at Bullet and asked him what he rode. Bullet is 83 years young and rides an NT700 Honda the man asking him was on a RT1150R. Bullet told the man he was 83 and the man asked him when was his birthday. Bullet told him his birthday was Sept. 11. The man responded that he was 83 and Bullet was 3 weeks older than him. The man then asked him for his name and Bullet told him it was Bob. The man told him his name was Bob also. The man then asked him if he was WWll vet. Bullet told him he was in the army air corp. The other man told him he had also been in the army air corp during the second world war. The man was real friendly and invited us to come visit him in Capitan NM Myself and the two other riders were cracking with laughter listening to these two old riders talk. I am no spring chicken myself at 66 and hope to be able to ride as long as my friend has.

    Just some unsolicited advice.
    Tread lightly.
This is the kind of discussion/argument that even if you win, you lose.
Let her have her say and just go ride.:thumb:

    Greetings,

Well, you may add my name to the over-50 (old farts?) list for I'll be 53 in October.

I'm also blessed to have been married for over 27 years to a wife who understands my passion for riding. I was fortunate to recently discover and purchase my 5th-generation 800 ('98) in near-showroom condition from the original owner with under 6.3k miles on the odometer. Along with the viffer my current stable includes my trusty '94 ST1100 with just under 90k trouble-free miles, Roulette Green '98 Triumph T-509 Speed Triple, '85 Honda V30 Magna with under 7k miles in storage (was my Dad's bike before dementia and Alzheimers took hold) and my first street bike, a '82 Yamaha XZ550RJ Vision (8-valve, water-cooled, DOHC, counterbalanced 550cc v-twin...unfortunately disassembled for 20years after it spun a bearing at ~ 25k miles).

Just this morning before rain arrived I was able to take the ST, Speed Triple and Viffer out for short back-to-back runs. Although I still enjoy them all despite their differences, believe the Triumph may go on the block when spring fever hits along with my '99 BMW 323i convertible.

Downsizing sure sucks, but with two kids still in middle school and college costs rising significantly year after year, there have to be priorities.

For now I'm loving my viffer. Almost bought a new '94 750 before choosing my ST1100 in early '95, but this was before my kids arrived and I thought the ST would be better suited for the wife and I to ride two-up. However, when my daughter arrived two years later by mutual agreement the wife and I decided to only ride together rarely. I still love my ST after all these years and recently had her forks rebuilt, carburetors cleaned and adjusted, the timing belt replaced and new roller steering heat bearings installed. So she s/b good for many miles to come. Unfortunately, with advancing years I've lost muscle tone to the point that pushing the old girl around and slinging her up on the centerstand with stuff in the saddle bags and a full tank of gas has become an "iffy" proposition for me now.

Riding the ST and viffer back-to-back this morning brought home how similarly they feel and handle once the wheels start turning. When I sit in the saddle of either one, it just feels "right".

Can't say the same for most of the other non-Honda sport/sport touring mounts I've ridden over the past 10 years.

Honda just seems to get it "right"...at least for my taste. Sorry for the long post.

    Carey in Chesterfield, VA
