I have a tiny Joe Rocket Hammerhead bag. I love it, but I bought it for my Honda Hawk GT and it does not really fulfill my needs on this bike. I used an Icon bag for some time, much larger, but the magnets were not nearly as strong and I did have issues with it moving. Any recommendations on a larger tank bag, something that can handle spare visors, camera, pistol, sweater, cell phone, wallet, drink bottles, food, etc. Most of my rides are full day rides with my g/f on the back so tank storage is a necessity! Preferably something for under $100 and any links to ones currently on sale would be rockin'!

I am looking at the Fieldsheer Contour Magnetic Base:

Thanks man. That's all I really use for my gear. Already did a search and they don't have anything really big enough for a price range I want to spend. The one I listed in the OP seems like my best bet as I found a bangin' deal on it ... still waiting on others to see if they prefer something else :)

I really like my Marsee 15L hard-top. I electrified it. The magnets are strong enough to hang it on the side of my tank when I get gas so I don't have to unplug and remove it.

Thanks guys. The one I listed up top is 20.6L. Looking for something at LEAST 20L if possible. Need some biggggg storage on that tank when the girl and I are riding. Her NorthFace backpack only holds so much before her 100 lb body starts to get pulled off the back of the bike lol.

BUT, keep posting them. I haven't seen many tank bag threads on here and that's always key to me as you can tell - a good tank bag :)

Good choice, I have the smaller fieldsheer tank bag and the fieldsheer expander saddlebags. Great luggage at a great price. I've found the rain covers even work quite well too.

I know you already ordered, but if you're looking for big, Rapid Transit makes one that is 29L for about $115. A few more $ than the $100 you mentioned you wanted to spend, but it IS a big bag!

Make sure you give us a write up on your new bag!

Thanks! I just paid $74 shipped to my door for it on closeout from Bike Bandit :) Shipping from CA I should have it next week. Can't wait. I'll definitely post up a review! Now, someone go buy my former tank bag in the Classifieds section :p

+1 On the Rapid Transit Recon 19. The only downside is that the cell pocket won't fit a big enough phone for practical navigation/GPS (IE: I-Phone 4G) Other than that, magnets on mine have been speed/crash tested and the bag doesn't move...

I know you allready ordered, but Imma throw my two cents in the ring anyhow. I've got a Firstgear Silverstone 2 tank bag. Rather massive when on the tank for a shortie like me and definately holds a ton of crap, and I've never unzipped it to get the extra storage capacity out of it. I normally ride around with my spare shield inside too, fits very nicely in the end leaving plenty of room for other goodies.

Magnets are uber strong, two large ones and two small ones per side, that's eight total. Only time it ever slides is when I've JUST waxed the tank and I lean on it a bit too much, never by itself from wind, bumps, etc.

On another note, it is currently working nicely as a tail bag cause it was just too much in my way and it straps nicely to the rear of my seat. I keep the magnet base on it folded under incase I take a passenger I can just put it on the tank and off we go.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but something regarding tank bags has always concerned me. Do they leave marks/scratches on the tank? Thanks.

Yes and no. If you take care and don't place the magnets onto any pieces of metal or magnetic stones, you are typically okay. Also, don't "slide" it around on the tank and it's fine. Lift it straight off and set it straight down with care and you should be okay.

I've always preferred the security of bags with harnesses strapped to the bike. Of course the last tank bag I bought was 15 yrs ago... I get the impression that newer "Mag Bags" are much better. I am kind of sick of having to install or remove the straps anyway.

I too really like the looks of the Rapid Transit Recon 19 Magnetic Tank Bag shown above.
JTC - you can't fit your iPhone in it's phone pouch? It states that it fits - is iPhone4G larger? The length they list (4.75") is exactly the length of my phone. That would be my only concern as my Samsung is just slightly larger than the iPhone - not that I've ever used it on the bike.

Also how do you like the placement & size of the map pouch? Seems a bit narrow at 4".
