Let's make this a good reference thread for people shopping insurance. It's always nice to see what others are paying and for what coverage. Obviously you don't have to answer the amount of citations/accidents you have had, but it helps give us an idea of rates ;-)

EDIT: Just got my coverages changed
    Insurance Company: Rider Insurance
    Rate: $218/year (12 months)
Coverage: Full Coverage ($50k, $100k, $25k for Bodily injury, Property damage, Uninsured, Underinsured motorist), $5k for peds, passenger full coverage, theft, fire, damage ($250 deductible), $8000 in gear/accessory coverage, roadside assistance, etc... damn.
    Bike: '98 VFR800 Interceptor
    Age: 28
Speeding Citations: None in PA in 10 years
    Accidents: None in 10 years

    Insurance Company: Progressive
    Rate: ~240/yr
Coverage: Liability, Comprehensive, Collision (without collision it'd cost me about 1/2)
    Bike: '03 VFR800 Interceptor
    Age: 31
Speeding Citations: Only ticket in my life was about 10 yrs ago (none on the bike)
    Accidents: None ever

I should mention that Progressive has also sent me 10% off at bikebandit.com (along with my 10% AMA member discount already being given) a few times since having their service.

    wow

Imagine that, I can't believe the price on your insurance. The cheapest I'll ever see here and that's for maybe 7 months of riding is 6 something. I currently have the safety course and 3 years of driving bikes, 20 in trucks and I am paying 800 for the year. My little drz sm was 850 when i first started. Full coverage. I earned one ticket in my life but at least my insurance allows 3 minors or one major before a huge hike comes my way. Just for giggles, I price an 06 busa..$1875 for the year.

firedawg - It may be time to shop your rate a bit. Checkout a national broker (Brokerlink for example) and get some leg work done for free. Kanetix is another obvious one for we Canucks. I see advertisments for Riders Plus in Motorcycle Mojo magazine all the time, but don't have any specific knowledge.

    I'm paying $350 a year (Primmum Ins.....TD Bank spin-off). The highlights include:

$2 Mill Liability, Uninsured coverage, theft/fire/vandalism coverage ($250 deduc).
32-yr old, male, no bike tickets, 1 car speeding ticket, safety course.

Geeze, Dawg, that's crazy...I was paying $ 580 through Riders Plus for full coverage on my '99 VFR but they wouldn't touch me on my ZX-14 so I hopped into bed with with TD (like Wilson...through Primmum) and now I'm at a reasonable-to-me $ 710 a year for the whole schmageggie...my wife's Ninja costs her $ 410 per year.

I don't get these massive discrepancies. Some of you guys in the US have it made!

$1250 annualy for full coverage, through Dairyland, with multiple (4 in three years) speeding tickets. I know it sounds high, but it's half the quote I got from a few national insurers. It was $800 with a clean record, so I think that CO is above average to begin with. I'm 37.

Dragging up an old thread, BUT I found it useful and it saved me $$$ this week... so here goes:

    Insurance Company: Rider Insurance
    Rate: $163/year (12 months)
Coverage: Full Coverage ($50k, $100k, $25k for Bodily injury, Property damage, Uninsured, Underinsured motorist), $5k for peds, passenger full coverage, theft, fire, damage ($250 deductible), roadside assistance.
    Bike: '86 VF500 Interceptor
    Age: 30
Speeding Citations: None in PA in 10 years
    Accidents: None in 10 years

This is also my first bike, and I haven't yet done the MSF Classes (July 17th), which I believe there is a discount for.

Progressive, Geico, All State - They all wanted about 50% more for similar coverages. Rider was the best I had found, by far.

I just started with Progressive Insurance when I purchased the bike last year.

    Coverage Levels:
BI $50,000 EACH PERSON - $100,000 EACH ACCIDENT
PROPERTY DAMAGE LIABILITY - $25,000 EACH ACCIDENT
    UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST - REJECTED

    Price: $84 a year

My driving record is totally clean. I will probably bump my coverage up this year.

Rider Insurance, '98 VFR and '05 BMW K1200LT, Full Coverage - Liability, Collision, and Comprehensive, Accessories, with road-side assistance, $250.00 deductible = $420.00/year. Age 65, no tickets (that's my story and I'm sticking with it). I had Progressive previously, and they reduced my rates two renewals in a row, then suddenly at the last renewal jacked my premium way up. So I switched to Rider.

In BC we have provincial insurer ICBC, and for full coverage $3 Million liability, Under-insured motorist (additional $1 million), full comprehensive ($300 deduc) and collision ($300 deduc) for a 2000 VFR800, no tickets in 10 years and 42 years old. Cost of insurance is $1756/year. Base Liability insurance must be purchased through ICBC at $840/year and the collision and comprehensive can be purchased through private companies but the difference is negligible, especially if you make a claim for anything.

Try Ball Insurance in Spring, TX. Four of my runners through them and I live in WA and OR. No tix six years and no accidents ever.

The Canadian insurers plumb the term "hoser" to new depths..

Ugh. I live in NY state, 31, no accidents, one speeding ticket in 2009. I'm pay about $1200 a year through progressive, and that's without full coverage (close but note quite). When I lived in WA, I think I was paying $600 a year with Progressive for full coverage. New York probably has a million taxes and requirements, being that it's the worst state to live in in the U.S.
