So what's your question, cause I'm looking into the same thing as the hard ones are so pricey. I'll keep an eye on this thread and find out along with you, if your asking how good they are and if they flap around in the wind, good question.

I have found a set from ogio for less than a $100 but I can't figure out how to secure them. I'm trying to see if anyone else here knows a way I have seen other threads here on saddle bags but none on how they are secured.

    hmmmm....this english?
looks like it might be a question....something about saddlebags.

    so if it is.......here.

I have Cortech bags & love them. these:
AND i have this tail bag for quick trips & briefcase or laptop....maybe groceries.

properly attached, they stay put under heavy braking, they have rain covers & hold a ton. use them together or separately.

need more? this tail bag is cavernous & also expands if you are moving out of your house to live on your bike.

Moving out & taking the piano? the large tail bag with these will do the trick.

Will they get burned by a highmount exhaust?

i would think probably so. the saddle bags, i mean. the tail bags, no. i've used both tail bags on a 98 w/ a Staintune high mount & they work. but here:

you can see the bottom of the bag has a heat rejecting covering, but i don't think it would be in the right location to help w/ a really High Mount exhaust if it was pretty tight to the rear fairing.

I like those extra capacity cortech bags. Problem is I can't find information about how they work on a vfr with a staintune highmount. I could always order them and find out, if they dont work, can send them back and get screwed with shipping. Or just flip for the hard cases.

There's not alot of information on how there mounted, I guess try to find as many pics as you can and go from there. Maybe you'll have to order them up and find out for your self, like I'm thinking about doing. I read some reviews on ogio bags, but no mention of mounting issues.

I have the same Cortech tri-bag bag setup as leftcoast on my Nighthawk for 4 years now. They are great bags, will carry a considerable amount of stuff. You can't see the top bag in the pic, it is buried under other bags. The tie down straps work very well, the bags stay put very nicely. The only problem to date is the foam backing pads, they are beginning to deteriorate somewhat. I will be checking with Cortech to find out if replacements are available.

This is the third time I have tried to post this fuggen reply. My server keeps shutting down. Anyways, I have the above cortech set up and love it, No signs of it flopping around at all. Several trips including twice from Vancouver BC to Atascadero California.

Attaches with supplied bungee cords from the front of the bags to the passenger foot peg bracket, and from the back, to two "U" bolts I mounted on my fender. The bags get warm but by no stretch of the imagination do they get hot with stock pipes with the heat shield in place. If you have after market pipes without a heat shield, then I don't know.

I think if you look at my picture above, you will see that the right side bag would contact the Staintune - unless you fab a spacer of some sort.

I have a 5th Gen with a 2 Brothers Hi mount. I'll give a shameless plug here for the Nate (super cool and helpful) at new Enough: I had gone through ordering about 3 different sets of saddlebags. Nate was kind enough to step in and help me out.

I sent him a picture of my exhaust set up, and he was of the opinion that the best set up would be Nelson Rigg Saddlebags, along with a heat shield that they make that covers the inner side of the bag that would be resting against the exhaust (meaning not physically INSIDE the bag).

I don't know who else makes heat shields that attach to bags, but if you have a hi-mount, you're definitely going to want protection between the pipe and the bag. The bag will melt otherwise, and that's not exactly considered a "warranty" item.

My gen 5 set up has a scorpion carbon pipe so heat is less of an issue, but even if you have a little clearance it should be fine. As for securing them to the bike, I've used double sided velcro tape to the passanger footpegs, under the tail well away from the tire and across the bags handles to help with alignment. Then I pile stuff on top as well.

You don't have any issues with it and the tire rubbing? That if i was better at asking the right question is what i was wondering there aren't many mounting points on the rear of the bike.

I could fab up a heat shield to mount directly to the rear peg along with exhaust. As long as it did'nt push the bag off to the side. And that would depend on how low the bag hangs which is hard to say when one does'nt have the bags yet. From looking at your pic, I'm guessing my exhaust is approx 3" higher than yours, considering the angle also, I could make a heatshield that the bag could sit on and also mount to. I may be on to something here, thanks for posting that pic.

Hey thanks for that info. I checked out the website, and there's alot of valuable information on there. I am now considering the Nelson Rigg CL-950 Deluxe saddlebags. They come with the extra heat protection, and they are large enough for our travels. Even though I might have to still fab a heatshield, the extra protection would be great.

No issues though i forgot to menttion that I put them on over mt tailcover. It allows them to hang higher and straighter. A bit of scoot mat to prevent abrasion and so far no damage

No problem, Jesus. New Enough (who just changed names to Motorcycle Gear) has been around for a while. Personally, I order just about anything and everything I need from them. I haven't had a bad experience yet, their service is great, and shipping and return policies are pretty easy as well.

If you go and join their mailing list, I think you'll get an instant coupon for 10% off your next purchase.

And if you're not picky about the latest and greatest style, keep you eyes on their closeout section. Some slammin deals to be found there.

No, I'm not affiliated in any way whatsoever.

EDIT: You mentioned you "might still fab a heatshield". Go to the site. Click on the saddlebag you want (N/R 95 Deluxe). When it brings up the info on the bag, scroll to the bottom of the page. There is a heat shield that can be added as an accessory.
