Heard it from VFRD that Honda has and will discontinue the VFR 800 after the 07 models. Has anyone heard any differently? I plan on picking up a 06 within 30 days.

I'd read that over there too. It wouldn't surprise me if they did, but with only one minor magazine (Cycle News?) reporting this supposedly I'm not putting too much stock into it being fact yet. It would be disappointing if they did, but then again I've got the bike I really wanted anyway and them not producing anymore doesn't change that.

Only if they are getting rid of 800 part. World-wide, it is one of their most popular models. Sales are down compared to the previous gen, particuarly in the US, but still sells better than a lot of their models.
With a serious cult following and a link to some of their racing heritage. I really can't see them doing away with that.

I read that too over on the Advrider.com forum. It is a quote from the British publication, Motorcycle News, or something like that. If the news is true I feel that my 05 VFR will be just as welcome in the garage as before! Remember, it is a Honda and Honda will stand behind their product like BMW and Harley do. Long term parts will be there, so quit worrying and enjoy one of the best rides for the buck in this crazy hobby... and listen to that V-Tech sing

    maybe yes, maybe no

Resale value is a funny thing, in some markets these bikes are in demand, in most others I would guess, like mine here in Northeast Ohio probably less so.

The value is what we as riders attach to the machine. Market forces make other demands. I bought mine because I wanted something different from the BMWs I have been riding for 20 years. I'm still on a learning curve as I learn to adjust to a shorter wheel base, a little less torque, a motor that loves to rev, and a 150 less pounds to throw around. Going in I knew my VFR would not have the resale value I enjoyed with BMW. When you get to a certain point it is the ride, the expierence that is important. I don't trade bikes often when I get one I tend to keep it for 10 years or more starting back in '75 when I got my first big bike a GT 750 Suzuki, the guys I rode with at the time all rode Kawasaki Z-1s I had to ride something different. Within 3 years they all to a man gave up riding while me and my "Water Buffalo" carried on.
If you like the bike then just ride, ride , ride!

Dude... Did I not call this or what?!?! I'm VERY dissapointed in Honda. :pout: Sometimes the US vehicle market makes me want to vomit.

Kbrick. I remember the GT750. Always wanted one but could never afford it at the time. A very distinctive ride. Down my way at the time (New Zealand) they were nicknamed the water bottle. That would be a pretty cool bike to have today.

Maybe they want the V4 800 for the new CBR 800 to match the MotoGP bike?

Funny thing about riding it though, there was one set of points for each cylinder. Ran like the dickens though, mine was a GT 750M, revised porting and all. I traded it for a leftover BMW R80ST in '86 they gave me 500 dollars in trade toward the Beemer.

I'll believe this when I see it, kinda like giving up on the civic, won't happen. unless it's a whole new model which I doubt very much. talk is cheap rumors are just that rumors, oh the drama this brings to the table.

not to hyjack thread, what is with Honda 'cycle division anyway ?

I just heard someplace they were gonna drop the F4 - and that the new Euro Hornet with 600RR engine, way cooler styling isn't coming over . . .

and the never ending 'rumors' of a V5 VFR / XX

When's the last time Honda actually offered a class leading, 'cool' bike - the original Fireblade, for 4 years or so . . . The mid '90's CBR 600 / VFR

Actually, right now Honda does not offer one model I'd want to spend $$ on. Excell. bikes, but not interesting. Little Tri - 675 daytona , sp. Triple, new Tiger. What I really like looks of, the new Aprilia 750, Shiver or whatever it's called. wonder if it'll come over, at a good price.

I talked to my inlaw who works as a salesman at the Honda dealer and he said that the VFR will not be in the lineup for 2008..If Honda wants to sell me a VFR , it must have gear driven cams/ NO VTEC/ side mount exhaust and have sporty styling like the 5th gen or earlier models...

1 of the members on VFRD paid $700 to have a valve adjustment done on his VTEC model at a honda dealership....To me thats getting raped...I paid $230 at the honda shop for my valve adjustment /check at the local Honda dealership.for my 5th gen ..

I can see now why the 6th gen was not a hot seller with what it cost to have it serviced.... I hate to see the VFR go , but after Honda cut its balls off with vtec and other changes it just wasnt a sporty bike to me and it looked more like a touring only machine..

Maybe 2008/2009 will give us a totaly new V4 powered Interceptor as the honda salesman said the VFR was not coming in 2008 , then with a grin he said the Interceptor may take its place ..

Someone please show us the official notice from Honda (or a copy thereof). Like reg, I will believe it when I see it. I could see it being re-badged as just an Interceptor as a strong possibility, tho.

That is true. Would you believe that most of the OEM parts for Hawk GT are still available? It allowed me to bring her back after a nasty wreck a few months back.

The only way Honda will discontinue the VFR is if they have something to replace it with. If not, then they have nothing to offer that falls in the sport category between a CBR600 and CBR1000. Honda is smarter than that.

No honda is not that smart..The main sportbike sellers are the 600/1000 squid machines as thats what the sqidleys want.. The 750 /800 powered sportbike in the honda dealers has not been really hot sellers for sometime..

I myself would like to see a all new V4 powered 750/800cc sportbike that would put Honda back on top without a bunch of gadgetry (vtec)..

We will have to wait and see if honda actually does something because if they dont this Honda customer of 30+yrs will bee looking at the all new Aprilla V4 powered machines..

In '03 Honda discontinued for the US the Valkyrie, the Blackbird, the Nighthawk and the Magna. Now the VFR? what'n in hell are they replacing these fine bikes with? nothing that I can see but the same old same old Harley rip-off wanna be v-twins, the Goldwing and the inline four 600 and 1000. Where the hell did Honda innovation go anyway?
