I've got to agree with tink on this Haas is a medium duty machine at best. Idk shit about mazaak but I am very familiar with Haas & okuma. I'll take the okumas over a Haas any day. Tink are u a machinist . I run & program an okuma L370MW about like the mazaak in your pic.

Yeah you all are right... I guess i named this thread wrong, but it's nice to see other machine junkies. Tink, point well put. Seriously. I just put the bug in the bosses ear. Maybe in 5 or so years we can get one and the boss is interested. (Gotta pay off the new one first!) About starting my own carb thread, I have found a plethera of info here already. So if I can't find what i'm lookin for, i'll do it. On another point, It is seriously amazing how quiet that haas is. I'll try to get some vids up today.

I don't know that I'd call myself a machinist although I've held the title and have been a programmer. There are some real craftsman out there.

Okuma makes a real good machine too. They are known to be a real innovator like Mazak and not just copy others like Mori. The only downfall for Okuma is that they don't have as big of a US presence as Mazak and so I think Mazak has more to offer from parts, service, and training standpoint. Not having a US manufacturing presence hurts them due to the costs of importing that get tacked on.

Mecrutio - I think there are online classes available for you too that might help to make sure you are getting the most out of that 510. I believe they are hosted by ToolingU. You might have to contact Mazak to get an account.

I might look that up. Don't get me wrong I like that Mazak. (ALOT!) It is way more machine than a haas. Haas machines are what I have been using scince i started cnc. Most of my exp. comes from the manual side. I'm quite attatched to em. You do have alot of knowledge of machining centers, what is it that you do tinkerin?
