Make sure you try them on before you put down the $$$. These boots are beyond crap. I REALLY recommend you do not get them.

On a side note, I had my final Orthopedics appointment for my injured left leg today. I rode & was wearing my TCX Competizione S boots. The Orthopedic Doc gave my boots . He said the Torsion Control System is good stuff.

    KC-10 FE out...

As an ex-military member, we used Bates for on the flight deck and basic seamanship stuff. The rule of thumb was to replace them every 6mo. Yes some of you know that on-board ship is not the friendliest place for footwear, but in my case (BM3) especialy so. Chip paint, paint, rinse and repeat. The berthing was 80 frames from the bow, and I worked in the aft refueling station. Pretty much 80 frames from astern. 6 mo. of walking 2 1/2 football fields 3 to 5 times a day, not including standing watch in the wheel house. The Bates stood up more than expected and were extremely lightweight being steel toed and all. Right now they are on sale at Sears for like 80 bones plus tax. (Non steel-toe.) I'm thinkin of gettin them, but I wish to ask some more expierience riders for what they think. I won't be on a track, and sometimes I'll break the speed limit. Most of the time though I will be in some twisties somewhere. So waddya think? BTW, I lug around some size 11 dogs. (not a good fit for the stock space on an 86 VF500F. )

    Mecrutio,

I highly recommend good quality, tall, motorcycle boots designed for sport riding or sport touring. If you get off you won't likely be sliding on the soles of your boots.

I am using the smx 5 waterproof. The only downside is that they are extremely hot in warmer conditions.

waterproof is good if you have plenty of rain but otherwise I recommend against the waterproof option.

SIDI B2 boots are a good choice between track and daily rider. I wear them every ride and they are great. I wear them in temps from 27 - 100+ always stay cmfortable and they have great safety features built in. SIDI has some other options in the same price range and better ones in higher price range.

I've got short, but wide gorilla feet and none of Sidi's sporty boots will fit, but I have a pair of Sidi Canyon boots that are about 5 years old with 150k or so miles, in all kinds of weather, on them and they're holding up great. Still totally waterproof, and very, very comfortable. I've only had one, low speed, low-side, and they suffered no ill effects (neither did my feet or ankles).

I also have a pair of A-stars SMX Plus boots that I use for track use, and used to be my full time boot; they have worn very well over the years and offer reasonable protection as well.

I had a pair of the Aerostitch Combat Touring boots ...or whatever they're called. ...really uncomfortable and I always felt my actual combat boots would do every bit as good a job.

I've had two pair of Vegas, neither held up well at all and the soles wore so quickly that they just were not worth the modest price. I have a pair of waterproof Astars I'll use when I know it's going to really be nasty. By preference, however, I wear SIDI racing boots, unsurpassed protection with great feel. A couple of my buddies really like their Dainese boots. Sorry for no pics, boots are in the outside garage, it's snowing and I'm being a big baby about it!

Two seasons on Sidi Vertigo's. Love them! I have big calves and the adjustable back is great. Short break-in period. I would buy them again.
I had a set of JR Meteor's for a little while but found that the toe was a little big. (hard to get it under the shifter).
    Just my two cents:smile:

Funny, I've worn a pair of Icon Field Armor boots for two years, I think they are my favorite boots I've ever had (well, except for the old school Hi-Point motocross boots I had as a kid), comfy enough to walk around in when riding, don't even need a second pair of shoes, and I like the support and protection...

LOL..Hang in there and somebody will be posting which snowshoes they think you should have for your garage trek. Followed by ads for snowmobiles, snowblowers and what's in and what's out in spandex ski togs.

Actually I have two pair of Alpinestars. One winter and one summer. Don't know the model number off hand and it is 03:35 in the morning so I am not going to go look. Pretty basic plain black I like then, I did have a pair of Joe Rocket that I must confess I liked better though. But alas, the soles wore out on the left foot and they could not be fixed

The most important thing about the "proper" boots is that several labels are on the outside so that everyone will know what one is wearing, is "in". Out is sooo tacky. Someday perhaps, "Show me your tits" will be usurped by, "Roll up your pantlegs."

I wear Sidi On-Road Gore-Tex boots. Not as much armor as the wannabe racer boots, but I've had two pairs and love 'em. They last forever, look decent with jeans over 'em, and are reasonably comfy walking around.

I wears Bates Leathers road race boots. First pair I bought back in 92 which I still wear due to an excellent shoe maker. Wore a hole thru the left boots shift pad, and couldnt believe the craftsmanship he performed by replacing the holy leather, he is truly a master leather maker. Loved those boots so much bought another pair for $225.00. Its a good street riding boot as its soft and flexible along with some toe sliders, I am a happy camper. No matter what, I gota wear boots and gloves bare miniumum.

Far as racing goes, when I do hit the track I wear some beat up Alpinestars or Prexports. Both pairs have been crashed in numerous times with no injuries to my feetssees. Side note, I had a bad get off at the track and the next day both backs of the balls of my feet where black and blue. Alpinestars are gud.
